Optimistic Optometrist Grows with Help from

Inland Empire Small Business

Development Center

 

 

"I got tired of listening to news reports on the economy over the last few years; it was time to turn off the news and move forward," said Dr. Ledesma, CEO of Ledesma Optometry, Inc.

 

Dr. Ledesma needed to obtain a small working capital loan to help the practice increase the inventory and the efficiency.  He also wanted to participate in the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center's Technical Assistance Program (TAP) to learn how to use QuickBooks software, and to get training on accounting and finance to better manage his business.

Meet Our IESBDC Team:
Jennifer Dreher - Training Manager

Jennifer Dreher joined the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center in September 2001 as an Administrative Assistant and was promoted to Training Manager in June 2004.  She is responsible for coordinating and marketing the 200+ small business training events offered by the center's four full time and nine outreach offices.  Jennifer also assists in program development, managing client databases and summarizes program activities.

Changes to the 8(a) Business 

Development Program

The SBA 8(a) Program acquired its namesake from Section 8(a) of the Small Business Act, which was adopted by Congress in 1974 to help small companies owned and operated by socially and economically disadvantaged persons to develop their businesses.   The nine-year business development program was designed by the SBA to assist such firms in business growth by  "setting-aside" contracts  where only 8(a) certified firms are allowed to compete, develop mentor-protégé' alliances, allow access to sole source contracts for which they are not required to compete, and provide business counseling and technical training.
