Welcome to the September newsletter. After a super summer season in terms of weather - loads of sunshine and temperatures in the low 30's - we are now only 4 months from Christmas as I was reminded yesterday!
RECESSION OR REVIVAL ? 
 

 
About the only thing constant in the media is their repeated fluctuations between "double dip recession" and "substantial growth" so I have decided to ignore all future media and just concentrate on the positives!

 
THE MARKET
Certainly here in Mallorca we have seen a slow recovery in terms of enquiries and visits and some sales - usually at about 10% below the asking prices. More and more people are showing interest in "in land" properties in areas such as Santa Maria, Soller, and the South East around Santanyi and are keen to buy in the less populated areas where life is as it was when Spain was Spanish!
BANK REPOSSESSIONS
Needless to say these "pop up" from time to time. There are occasional excellent   opportunities which arise at short notice and which require a substantial but refundable deposit in order to attend the auction. The process is similar to other countries. If you require further information, please contact me.
EXCHANGE RATE

Currently at € 1.22 to the pound this works in favour of the UK buyer but of course is less attractive for sellers who wish to repatriate sale proceeds to sterling. Well worth using a broker such as Halo Financial or Globex Foreign Exchange (UK) Ltd.or Moneycorp all of which we find offer excellent rates and good service.

TOURISM

Overall visitor numbers are slightly down but last minute bookings are more and more the trend. In parallel with the increase in  "in land" buying of properties, rural hotels are having a better year and for example Can Furios in Binibona not far from Inca and Selva are fully booked for September.

Palma's football club, Real Mallorca, has been in the news -revitalised by new owners and with Michael Laudrup (Danish ex Barcelona Dream team) now in charge and new shareholders including Rafael Nadal of tennis fame, we look forward to great achievements.. His uncle Miguel Nadal - also ex Barcelona player - is also involved and the season has started with a home match draw 0 - 0  against Real Madrid on the 29th August. A pretty good result against the Madrid multi million giants!
