Being an Estate Agent is really perceived as quite prestigious these days in comparison to MPs and other politicians!
Nevertheless it is fair to say that all Estate Agents are optimists and none will admit that the current crisis is affecting THEIR business - just everyone else's!!
The reality is that of course the "crisis" IS affecting everybody's business, even here in Mallorca. In a few cases prices have been reduced where the seller is really pressed to sell but generally there has been no overall reduction of prices. As I always maintain - the majority of owners will wait it out and are not prepared to drop their price.
There are few buyers and closing a deal is difficult, nevertheless there are clients looking to buy - I would be more concerned if there were no signs of interest.
The Christmas season is here again - not a traditionally busy time for us which adds to the confusion about the market situation.

TRAVEL |

During the winter months quite a few of the traditional airline carriers to Mallorca have either reduced their frequency or cancelled flights altogether for the time being. We continue with Easyjet every day to Gatwick and Ryan Air every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday to Stansted, prices do not appear to be to have changed much although the dreaded "extras" such as a seat inside now costs extra. |
STERLING VERSUS EURO |

Although I had the impression (or perhaps - hope!) that the pound would improve against the Euro, it certainly seems unlikely to do so in the near future. We have various money broking companies with whom we work and it is well worthwhile consulting with them for rates as they usually knock spots off the traditional high street bank.
Halo Financial, Moneycorp, and Globex all give good rates and excellent service. |
CONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT |

Not so many cranes on the horizon these days - the ones I can see from where I live in Palma all seem to be at the airport. It would be interesting to know of an airport without cranes!
Developers are definitely in "waiting" mode although we have been somewhat starved of good new developments due mainly to the lack of good sites. For all the financial woes - if there is a site in the south west for development on a medium to large scale, there is money waiting to be invested. |
