Whether it's a bank, a car manufacturer, or a war, worldwide governments appear to vacillate in their support - be that wash the world with cash or pump in more troops - but don't give them the support they need, and who cares who will pay in the end!
Having got that off my chest, on the upside there does seem to be some improvement in the economic situation if Savills report on Central London is an indicator. Their report shows improving prices in central London
Savills say: Prime values: the high-end bounce continues in London
The improvement in Prime London property prices continued into the third quarter of 2009, as prices in central London rose by a further 4%. This has turned first quarter falls of -4% into growth of +4% in the year to date but still leaves prices -16.6% off their 2007 peak.
Savills Research: Residential October 2009 Regional prime property
The prime regional and country house market showed their first noticeable quarterly rise since the beginning of the downturn, increasing by 1.9%, leaving prices -17.7% off their peak levels of September 2007.

The essence of contemporary design

Prices in Mallorca continue to hold reasonably firm although the volume of sales is reduced according to most of my colleagues in the industry. There are still "bargain hunters" around but not too many "bargains".! The weak position of the pound sterling should encourage sterling based sellers to review their prices as they can take advantage of the increased sterling return, and could well afford to accept substantially lower offers.

A recent report from OPP magazine is good news for overseas home owners as the UK government announces TAX RELIEF FOR BRITISH SECOND HOMEOWNERS
Many Britons who let out their European holiday homes could be entitled to a tax rebate. The scheme gives those with second homes in the EU the same rights as those with holiday properties in the UK until April 2010. People who let out their property but still make a loss, or who have sold the house at a profit, may be able to claim tax repayments for as far back as 2003.
