STUDENTS TO SPEAK TO SPACE STATION: SEPT. 9TH
Volunteer Tommy Gober provided the equipment and guided students to contact the astronauts on board of the International Space Station.
If you could talk to an astronaut on the International Space Station, what would you ask?
The session, a first for the Piney Woods Region of Texas, took place on Sept. 9, 2011. The event provided an opportunity for Pine Tree Middle School students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by communicating directly with crew members on board the International Space Station.
"This was quite an honor for Pine Tree ISD," said Cliff Lightfoot, Pine Tree Middle School principal. "I remember watching the first shuttle launch on television when I was in elementary school. These children will remember this as a historical marker in their lives too."

NO PLACE FOR HATE: STUDENTS LEARNING TO PROBLEM SOLVE
JH Councelor Jennifer Roberts and fellow counselor Valerie Ogle first learned about the No Place for Hate program at a Texas Counseling Association conference in February, with one of the sessions being about bullying.
Pine Tree Junior High School will be no place for hate this year. The campus on Monday launched the anti-bullying campaign, No Place for Hate, as a proactive measure against student bullying, counselor Jennifer Roberts said.
"We hear about bullying on tv, in the media, and at every conference we go to," Roberts said. "We wanted to take a proactive approach so we can handle it before it becomes a problem. If students have the tools and know what they are supposed to do, we can control it."
No Place for Hate, funded by the Anti-Defamation League, promotes students respecting each other, recognizing their own biases, and celebrating their differences.
