PTISD Celebrates PRIDE in Accomplishments as School Year Draws to End

Outstanding educators and retiring staff members were center stage for a new end of year event at Pine Tree this year.  Pine Tree ISD kicked off the new tradition with a district-wide celebration for staff highlighting the year's accomplishments and recognizing outstanding educators and staff. In past years, teachers and staff members were honored only at their campuses, however, this year everyone assembled at the PT Road Auditorium for the last hooray.  A variety of awards were announced.  > Read more.

    Dr. FarlerThe Board of Trustees met for the regular meeting on June 13th at 6pm in the Central Administration Office.  New Superintendent, Dr. T.J. Farler's three-year contract was approved by board members.  The board voted 7-0 to approve the contract.  Farler, who is currently serving in Wylie ISD as Assistant Superintendent, will start leading Pine Tree ISD July 5th.  Read more about Superintendent Farler. 

     

    Board President Melinda Burns recognized retiring Board Member, Gil Gillam who is resigning after twelve-years.  "We honor Mr. Gillam's service to this board tonight and thank him for the many years of service he has devoted to the students and staff of Pine Tree ISD," said Burns. 

     

    Gillam replied with personal words of thanks to the other six board members, staff members in the district, and to his wife who attended his last meeting.  "I also want to congratulate our newest board member, Dr. Craig Meek," he said as he pulled out a parting gift.  "I have brought a couple of energy drinks for you, Dr. Meek."

     

    Returning incumbent board member Pat Noon, and new board member, Dr. Craig Meek, were sworn in at Monday's meeting.   

     

    Also during the meeting, the Board heard an update on Bond Projects.  Tony Hollins, Director of Facilities for PTISD reported that work has begun with some of the projects on the High School Campus.  The gymnasium remodel for the Drill Team which includes abatement, paint and the addition of mirrors for the dance group. 

     

    Food bids were provided by Michelle Mitchell from the PT Child Nutrition Services.  Mitchell recommended companies based on bids provided through the District bidding process.  Meal pricing was discussed in relation to government requirements. Mitchell recommended raising costs by .25 cents.  Presently the district receives funding based on the number of students who purchase qualified free and reduced lunches.

    In other business, action was taken to take the Resolution Expressing the Intent of the District to Reimburse from Proceeds of Bonds AN Costs Paid From District Funds Prior to the Bond Closing for Projects Approved in the District Funds Prior to the Bond Closing for Projects Approved in the May 14, 2011 Bond Election.

    The PT Board of Trustees met Monday June 27th to discuss the selection of a construction model and the process for selecting personnel including the architect and construction manager to carry out charges in the 2011 bond proposal.

    A motion was approved to enter negotiations for the purpose of reaching an agreement with LAN  to serve as Project Manager over the design and construction of the projects in the Bond which will not be addressed in-house by the district.   Negotiations with LAN will be conducted by the new Superintendent and school attorney starting next week. Interviews for the architect will also begin the week of July 5th.

    Funding was approved for several items from both the bond and general funds.  Technology purchases for the new wide-area network infrastructure district-wide and new synthetic turf to install in the current stadium was approved to be purchased out of 2011 Bond funds, and a portable stage such as the one which is rented for graduation was approved for purchase out of general funds.
