Who:  PTHS Leadership Class performs a two hour USO show .
 
Why: The evening is filled with hits from the 40's ... songs, dancing, radio hits. As students learn of their heritage, our Greatest Generation enjoys an evening of memories. All proceeds from the event benefit the Heritage House Senior Citizen Center.

President's Day
MONDAY - February 15th is a HOLIDAY. 
Campuses will be closed Feb. 15th.  District and Tax offices will be open for normal hours.
 

As of 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, Pine Tree ISD has not made any announcements regarding school closures due to inclement weather.  Continue to monitor the PTISD website, radio, and TV stations for any inclement weather announcements and updates.

School Board
School of Choice
The Board of Trustees of Pine Tree ISD approved the opening of an Alternative High School for Pine Tree ISD on Monday, February 8, 2010 as a commitment to creating options for students that meet their unique academic and life needs.  The new student-centered alternative high school, planned to open in August 2010, will serve to accelerate credit recovery and reduce dropout rates.  The school will feature a rigorous and relevant on-line curriculum, close student-teacher relationships, social support and personal leadership development.  Read more.
 
Academic Calendar 

The 2010-2011 Academic Calendar has been approved and is available for download -

click here.  The school year will begin on Monday, August 23, 2010.  The first student holiday is Labor Day, September 6th. Fall break will run a full week for students: from November 22-26 and winter vacation will extend from December 20-31st. Spring vacation is set for March 14-18, and the last day of school will be May 27th. 
 
Minutes and Elections 
To view minutes from past meetings, click here.  Action items are posted by the end of the week, and official minutes after they are approved at the following month's meeting.  An election for three positions on the board has been set for Saturday, May 8, 2010.
 
Student and Staff Updates  -

Students at a recent District Conference for DECA: Distributive Education Club of America, competed for state in their area of competition. They will be competing at the State DECA Conference in Ft. Worth on February 19-21. Read more at the PTHS Winners Page! 

 

Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th Day of school in style!!!

Susan Duncan of Pine Tree High School, Longview, Texas has achieved Master Journalism Educator status from the Journalism Education Association (JEA). Duncan was honored at the fall JEA/NSPA national convention in Washington, D.C.  Read more.

 

Members of the PTHS band competed at UIL Solo & Ensemble this past Friday, February 5, 2010, earning many awards.  Read more.

 

PTHS welding students competed at district SKILLS competition this month and qualified for the state competition with either their projects or hands-on skills.  The Automotive class also had 3 students qualify for the state competition with their projects.  Read more.

 

The Pine Tree UIL Academic team competed at the White Oak Invitational on Saturday, Feb.6. Many teams and individuals received awards.  Read more.

 

Students from Pine Tree High School attended the Kilgore College Art Symposium and Scholarship Contest on Friday, February 5th.  The contest is open to all art students in the region 7 area and affords the opportunity for seniors to compete for scholarship to Kilgore College.  Read more.

 

PTHS students in PTHS Physics class took to the shooting range for a fired up physics lab. Pine Tree High School seniors, with their teacher, Joe Kirchhoff, and SRO, Chris Bethard, held their AP physics class at the Longview police shooting range.  Read more.

 

PTHS Marketing teacher Kelly Thomas has been elected by her fellow marketing educators as District 6 president of marketing educators. Thomas has an accounting degree, worked in the private sector as an accountant before she began teaching at Pine Tree High School in 2004.  Read more.

 

PTA Reflections, part of a nationwide 30-year-old program, encourages students to create works of visual art, music, literature, photography, dance choreography and film/video productions.   Students from Pine Tree High School and Junior High who won Council Awards of Excellence were recognized at a ceremony.  Read more.

 

Seven Pine Tree students from Pine Tree High School competed against 45 chapters at the Regional Leadership Conference for Business Professionals of America Convention in Frisco, Texas.   Read more.

Texas Education Agency: Assessment Update
 

AUSTIN - Commissioner of Education Robert Scott announced that the next generation of student tests will be called the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR.  STAAR will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), which is the criterion-reference assessment program that has been in place since 2003.  Read more.
