PT Board Approves Lease, Reviews Goals
Pine Tree Board of Trustees approved a contract to rent our current Primary School building effective September 1, 2009 to an area Texas nonprofit corporation known as Regional Community Connections One, Inc. Read more. View goals and other actions in School Board minutes.
TAKS Testing: March 3rd
Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) Reading and English Language Arts will be administered to all students in grades 3-11 on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Retesting will also take place that week.
New Parent Notification - Phone System
Pine Tree School District is implementing a new parent notification system this semester. The ALERTNOW Rapid Notification Service allows the district to send important information quickly via phone and/or an e-mail account. This service allows the district to send a voice and/or email message to ALL of students' parents within minutes, if an emergency occurs at a school. Read more. Read more. PUBLIC SCHOOL CELEBRATION
PTISD will set aside time in March for campuses to invite parents, grandparents, siblings, and others to come share in a variety of activities to showcase the many educational opportunities afforded in our district. PTHS: Pirates Taking Hold of Success - Information MeetingStudents in 9th-11th grade and parents are invited to attend an informational meeting, 6:30pm - Feb. 19th in the library with the HS counselors to learn more about Academic Planning, College and Career Initiatives, College Readiness and Post-Secondary Planning, and Financial Aid. PT ELECTIVE FAIRE
Eighth Grade students and parents are invited to attend a fun evening to learn about all the options waiting for students at PTHS. The Elective Faire will be held in the Junior High Library on Thursday, March 5th, from 6:30-8:00 pm.
New Construction & Renovation PTISD
PINE TREE MULTI-PURPOSE GYM
Built within the past two years and on budget as part of a 2006 bond issue, the new PTISD facility underwent scrutiny by its owners during an open house Sunday, Feb. 8th. The gymnasium, which seats about 2,000 people, may be used for basketball and volleyball games, plus pep rallies, graduation and other school events. Read more PIRATE PLAZA
The PT Education Foundation has established a plaza in front of the new Multi-Purpose Gymnasium. The brick plaza, named "Pirate Plaza", consists of red brick pavers available for engraving to honor or remember the names of Pine Tree students, teachers, alumni, and community supporters. The plaza features a new seal, designed by PT Alumni, Lee Littlefield. Read more.
PINE TREE ROAD AUDITORIUM:
The $200,000 dollar price tag that it took to renovate one of the district's auditorium will pay off major dividends for the school, the area and local businesses. The new facility includes wheelchair accessibility, a better sound system, state of the art seats and more. "It's been very much updated in our minds and we feel like it will be make a positive impact for the use of the community," said PTISD's Tony Hollins. Read More

Middle School Students Represent PT in Spelling Bee
The Gregg County spelling bee brought nine students from Longview, Pine Tree, White Oak and Kilgore schools to Kilgore Intermediate School for the competition. Nikki, a seventh-grader at Judson Middle School in Longview won the Bee. But if she can't go, runner-up Arya Reddy, of Pine Tree, will take her place. Read more.
PTHS Debate Team Claims Awards
UIL debate competition was hosted by Hallsville HS Jan. 24, 2009. Schools participating in the competition were Chireno, Hallsville, Harmony, North Hopkins, Pine Tree, Sabinel, Spring Hill and White Oak high schools. Jack Loeb, Pine Tree won first place in the Lincoln Douglas competition. Read more.
Diver and Coach Awarded Top Honors
Pine Tree's Lindsey Conway earned gold in the one-meter dive, while Gilmer's Grant Koudelka won the boys 500-yard freestyle Saturday at the District 13-4A swim meet. Koudelka also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle. Pine Tree's boys and girls swim teams each placed second behind league champion Texas High. Pine Tree coach Daniel Gonzalez was named the district's Coach of the Year. Read more.
8th Grade Pirates Capture District Champs Award Lady Pirate 8th grade "A" team captured the DISTICT CHAMPIONSHIP by beating Hallsville this weekend and going 7-0 in district play. Coach Jana Taylor expressed proudly, "This is an amazingly unselfish and talented team that plays with a lot of heart." Read more
PTHS Students Share Life Lessons in Essay Contest: Local high school students have learned life lessons from unlikely sources, including people who are elderly, physically disabled and mentally ill. That was the message Tuesday evening at the annual banquet for the Laws of Life essay contest held at the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center on the LeTourneau University campus. The event was sponsored by the university and the Longview News-Journal. All participants are juniors at local high schools. Read more.
