PT Board Approves Calendar
Pine Tree Board of Trustees approved the 2009-2010 Academic Calendar at the January meeting; it is now available: www.ptisd.org. The school year will begin on Monday, August 24, 2009. The first student holiday is Labor Day, September 7th. Thanksgiving vacation will run a full week for students: from November 23-27 and winter vacation will extend from December 21 to January 4. Spring vacation is set for March 15-19, and the last day of school will be May 31.. Read more. Review minutes from School Board meetings.
Gifted and Talented Screening Deadline
Parents who would like to have their student screened for the Gifted and Talented Program, must complete a nomination form which is available in campus offices. Once completed, the form must be returned to the office no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30. Read more.
PT High School Begins New Tardy Policy
At PTHS, instructional time is viewed as a precious resource. Consequently, chronic tardiness is viewed as a serious problem. In the spring semester, teachers and admiinstrators will work toward having students in class and on time. Parent support is needed for ensuring student's punctual attendance to class so class time is maximized. Read more at the HS Webpage.
PTISD Scores Again with Energy
For the third straight year, Pine Tree Independent School District earned an incentive check from AEP SWEPCO for energy-efficiency upgrades. Building on last year's incentive of 37,800, this year PTISD received $12,300 from the utility for lighting, roofing, and air conditioning projects it completed in 2008. The incentive payment came as a result of the district's continued participation in the AEP Texas SCORE (Schools Conserving Resources) Program.
Construction on Schedule
In 2004, voters approved a $45 million bond package for a new middle school, a new high school ninth-grade wing and tennis courts, and a new primary campus. In 2006, voters approved a $7 million bond to pay for unforeseen costs associated with a new Multipurpose building, which is under construction, along with the primary campus. Superintendent Lynn Whitaker is looking to open the new Multipurpose building at the beginning of February. More details to come soon.

Wallace & Weldon Earn State Music Awards
Greg Wallace and Brady Weldon will soon represent PT High School at one of the highest levels of accomplishment for high school musicians. Wallace, a member of the PTHS band, and Weldon, member of PTHS choir, will perform with the Texas All-State Band and Choir in San Antonio, Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio as part of the 2009 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. They were each chosen for this honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region and Area levels. Read more.
Hunter Skoog Selected for US Senate Program
Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn announced the names of the two Texas students who have been selected as delegates to the 47th annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) that will be held March 7 - 14, 2009 in Washington, DC. Hunter Skoog of Longview was chosen from hundreds of applicants to be part of the group of 104 student delegates who will attend the program's 47th annual Washington Week. Read more.
MLK Essay Contestant Awarded
Longview's annual MLK Community Festival, held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, features the winner of the city-wide essay contest. Stacie Charlton, PTHS student won 2nd Place in the contest and will receive a $1000 scholarship. She received the award at the Broughton Recreation Center, where she read her essay. Read more.
PTHS Students Honored for AP Awards
Fifteen Pine Tree High School students have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Exam. Cindy Gabehart, principal of PTHS presented each student a certificate of achievement before the PT School Board at January's monthly meeting. Read more

Pine Tree's UIL Academic invitational Meet was held on Saturday, January 10th on the Pine Tree High School campus. Team and individual winners were awarded; many received top awards.
