Eastman Volunteers Help Students Cruise to Career Path

PTISD has selected "Career Cruising," an online career assessment to help students in grades 8-12 who want to find the right career, explore different career options, or plan future education and training. During the month of January, Texas Eastman is sending a squad of volunteers to present Career Cruising to students at the high school campus.

PT School Board Appreciation
Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed January 2008 as School Board Recognition Month. All year long, seven community-minded individuals are working to ensure that the children of Pine Tree ISD have the best education possible.

School board members deserve our thanks for assuming a major role in the success of our public schools.  They are elected to serve by local citizens and receive no compensation for their tireless efforts. Their service ensures that decisions about local public schools are made by those most familiar with the needs of the community's children and families.

Special Programs at PTISD
New Position Created:

Growing necessity for Pine Tree Independent School District's special programs has prompted the district to add a new director position. Pine Tree formerly had one person in charge of all special programs: the bilingual/ESL, special education, gifted and talented and federal funding programs. Since resuming classes in Jaunary, the district has switched to a staffing plan that gives the special education program its own director, while keeping the existing director of special programs in charge of the other services.  Read more

Gifted & Talented Program Info Available:

A New Innovative Preparatory Schedule Planned for PTHS
Pine Tree High School Principal Jason Mixon unveiled a 2008-09 scheduling blueprint during December's board of trustees meeting. The goal of the new plan, called the "Innovative Preparatory Schedule," is to offer students three choices: a college-like schedule, a traditional schedule and a mix of the two. "We do not feel like the straight traditional schedule or the straight block schedule work for every student," said Mixon, who has been studying the scheduling dilemma since he became principal in 2006. "We've got to meet the needs of every kid up here."  Read more.

An information meeting regarding the new schedule and other initiatives is set for Thursday, FEB.  21st, HS Theatre, 6:30pm.  Families with students in 6th - 12th grade are encouraged to attend.
