Texas Education Agency notified PTISD that the Gold
Performance Acknowledgment (GPA) system has
recognized four campuses for high performance
ratings. The figures released by TEA show that Pine
Tree ISD is recognized for outstanding student
achievement. Congratulations to the teachers of
these students who continue to build the tradition of
excellence!
The Board of Trustees presented Cathy Shipp, director of the PT Education Foundation, with a BRAVO Award for accepting the challenge of developing an exceptionally successful education foundation for Pine Tree I. S. D. Read more about the Education Foundation Five for the Foundation Campaign.
Young people and teachers at PTISD chose a variety of community projects to support last month. Participation in these projects not only delivers valuable resources to organizations in need, but also provides important lessons in philanthropy, decision-making, and community to the people involved.
Congratulations are in order for Pine Tree
Elementary and Intermediate School who took
the top two Fundraiser spots in Gregg County
supporting the American Heart Association for 2005-
2006.
Fifth and sixth grade AGM classes are
working with 6th grade G/T students at Carthage
Middle School on a year-long Community Problem-
Solving project in conjunction with the LEGS program
at LeTourneau University in Longview. Students sold
PT Spirit Bands and are giving all of the profits from
this fundraiser to the LEGS team at LeTourneau
University.
Students at the Middle 7th Grade Campus supported the United States troops serving our country through Operation S-O-T. Under the direction of counselor, Ginger West, students collected items and mailed them them to the US troops. Read More In October, the Pine Tree Junior High PALs collected more “Coats for Kids” than any other area school. The coat collection is sponsored by Longview Ministries and the contest was sponsored by KLTV for the third year. The “Traveling Trophy” was awarded to Pine Tree 7th grade and elementary schools in past years. For this year’s event, PTJH PALs collected 200 coats. Teacher Karen Darby is the PALs sponsor. Read More The Street Law class of Pine Tree High School provided their 9th annual Halloween Safety Skit for the Elementary campus on Oct. 31st.

October was Fire Safety Month. The Longview Fire Department brought the big red fire truck to school to show our Primary and Elementary students ways to stay safe. Read More Pine Tree ISD employs two full time School Resource Officers. The School Resource Officer seeks to balance three roles; that of enforcer, counselor and teacher. As an enforcement officer, the SRO's primary purpose is to keep the peace and maintain safety for students and staff. This is an important element in providing an effective learning environment. Roger Askew is stationed at the Junior High and Chris Bethard at the High School. A recent practice drill carried out by the City of Longview SWAT Team included PTHS students. The focus of the exercise was stopping intruders from taking hostages at schools. Members of Longview SWAT and the crisis negotiation team took part in the exercise. Read more
Pine Tree Junior High was the stopping point for the bus tour provided by Buster Turner for the Senior Citizens invited to our Share the Schools event on November 2nd. JH student council students were on hand to present flags to the veterans in the audience who were honored guests. A program featuring the Junior High Girls Choir preceded lunch.
Election day is Nov. 7th, but how much do you know about American politics? The students in Candee Collins' HS Street Law class wondered the same thing so they interviewed 140 people, asking 10 questions about our government. Then the television stations wanted to interview them about their findings. Remember to vote - Tuesday, November 7th.
The first online grant proposal for classroom projects at Pine Tree ISD has been awarded by DonorsChoose, an online marketplace that allows individuals and businesses to support specific student projects proposed by teachers. Jennifer Pope and her Pre-K students at the Primary School will be using new art supplies soon thanks to the generosity of a donor who ventured onto DonorsChoose.org.
