    Teachers of the Year

Pine Tree ISD Teachers of the year for the 2006- 2007 school year were honored at the September School Board meeting. These educators are dedicated and caring individuals who make a significant difference in the lives of their students through creative and effective classroom strategies.

    Community Service

Students of all ages are learning to make a difference in the lives of others. PT Intermediate students, PTHS Leadership Class and the PALS have worked very hard to help raise awareness and funds to fight cancer. The money they raised was donated to the Longview Relay for Life held, Friday, Oct. 6th.

The High School girls' soccer team is responsible for cleaning the stadium after football games as a team fund-raiser. Pine Tree girls' soccer coach Daniel Rich said the fund-raiser also has turned out to be a great character and team-building activity for the players.

Fifth grade and first grade students took time to honor area rescue workers as part of September 11th activities.

    Rally Round Your School

October 10, 2006 Chick-Fil-A and the Pine Tree Education Foundation will join together for Rally Round Your School Night. Numerous student groups will participate in this event that will be held from 6 - 9 at the restaurant's Gilmer Road and Loop 281 location. A percentage of the night's proceeds is donated to the Foundation by Chick-Fil-a. Last Spring the Education Foundation selected 8 classroom grant projects totaling $20,811.46 for funding in the 2006-07 school year. To date, the Foundation has funded more than $45,000 in classroom grants.

    PTA - Art Contest

This annual PTA arts program, Reflections, allows youth to express themselves through musical composition, photography, visual arts, literature, dance choreography and film/video production. The PTA Reflections Program is accepting entries September 11 - October 11, 2006

    High Scores Celebrated

Exam scores for college entrance have remained high for the last two years at Pine Tree High School. A close look at the High School Report of SAT and ACT scores show that PTHS students are well above the state and national averages. The Advanced Placement Program of PTHS celebrated success again with outstanding results. Two students from Pine Tree High School are to be congratulated for their work in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Diya Sikka has earned the National Merit Finalist award, and Katelyn Kennedy has been named Commended Student in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program from Pine Tree High School.

    Band Director Remembered

Jack England was a model teacher who touched lives. "He was such a caring man and took an interest in each student individually," said Karen Jacks Grace, a 1976 Pine Tree graduate. "He knew each of us individually. He probably knew more about us than we knew about ourselves."
