Traditional Art Series

Snowshoe Tours Begin
| | December 13th
Take a naturalist-guided snowshoe or ski tour and learn about wildlife in winter, tracking, mountain ecology, Aspen history, and the often unseen natural wonders of life in the snow.
Tours are offered every day throughout the winter on Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, and at the ghost town of Ashcroft.

Olaf and Sven Visit ACES!

| Hallam Lake Thursday, December 16th 3:30pm - 5pm, FREE
Visit Olaf the Elf during the holidays and help him feed the animals at Hallam Lake. Holiday crafts include making bird feeders, snowflakes, and cookie decorating. Be prepared to walk outside in the winter wonderland.
Rock Bottom Ranch Friday, December 17th 3:30pm - 5pm, FREE
Sven, a Swedish elf who visits the Ranch every year just as the snow starts dusting the farmyard, invites children of all ages to help feed and care for all the ranch animals as the winter sets in. Holiday crafts including candy cane reindeer, pine cone bird feeders, snowflakes, and cookie decorating will take place before Sven's appearance. Join in this fun filled holiday event for the whole family.

ACES for the Holidays

Are you ready to enjoy some snowy action-packed days at ACES? Become a Winter Explorer and discover the winter wonderland first-hand at the Hallam Lake nature preserve. You will examine animal tracks, build a snow cave, make winter art, learn winter survival techniques, and investigate how the natural world copes with winter.

Terry Tempest Williams

Join ACES and the Aspen Writers' Foundation in a special evening with acclaimed author Terry Tempest Williams. The evening will include a public reading and talk, followed by a short Q&A and book signing.
Naturalist, free speech advocate, and award-winning author Terry Tempest Williams has published sixteen books in a range of genres including novels, memoirs, poetry and essay collections, and a book for children. Her 1991 memoir, Refuge: an Unnatural History of Family and Place, is considered a classic of environmental literature.

Nature & Me
| | NEW! Parent & Child Series Mondays, 10am - 11am January 10 - March 14, 2011 8 week series (no class MLK and President's Monday) $100, $80 ACES members $50, $40 for siblings 1 year or older
Since growing up, have you ever wondered what's so special about digging in dirt and picking up worms and bugs? Kids love it, right?!?! Come learn alongside your littlest nature explorers about the vast diversity and splendor of nature!
This weekly hour-long program will include fun educational activities with a different focus each session. Your kid will still get to dig around in the dirt (or snow!) and you get to decide to join in or learn some more nature facts and stories from an ACES educator. Sing songs, play games, create nature art, explore outside, and acquire new tools and ideas that will further cultivate your inborn sense of wonder.
