Dear Jane,

My mother has Medicare part A & B. She also has Horizon Medicare Blue Value with Rx Standard HMO.   Does she need to apply for Medicare part D?   She also is on the PAAD program?   Also, how does one apply for Medicare Part D and are there any premiums to it.   Would she have to pay the premiums?

Signed, Confused in NJ
Dear Confused,

If your mother's primary insurance is Medicare and she is on PAAD she will need to choose a Medicare part D plan. There should be no premiums while she is eligible for the PAAD program and she will also receive her medications at the discounted rate. PAAD will ask to see a list of your mother's medications so they can help her select a Medicare part D plan that will best meet her needs.

If she has an HMO as her primary insurance plan she does not need to enroll in a Medicare part D plan since Medicare would not be her primary. I would need to know more about her current prescription plan and if it was part of retiree benefit package. If her prescription insurance is part of a retiree benefit program she should have received a letter stating if their coverage was comparable to a Medicare part D plan.

Individuals who have paid into the Medicare system are eligible for Medicare part A after age 65 at no extra charge, but there is a fee for part B coverage that is usually deducted from social security payments.

I would be happy to discuss this question further with you to provide you with more detailed information if you are interested you can contact me through my email address or you can also obtain information from the Medicare web site at www.Medicare.gov.

Sincerely,
Jane Bohn, CSW

Question: Pastor what is God's will and how can I know what's for me as an individual?

This question can be viewed as having many layers. Simply put God's will is found in God's Word. The study of the Bible reveals God's will for all of humanity. John 3:16 affirms the love of God when Jesus Christ came into the world to seek and save all who will call upon the name of the Lord. You can see how God made provision for salvation thereby demonstrating God's will.

If I am able to understand the principle of this teaching then I can use the same method to begin the process of discovering God's will for my life. Salvation is the beginning of a life-long journey with God for the Christian. I have found that the only way to live peaceably is to place my trust in a faithful God who loves me and find ways to demonstrate it, even when I'm not aware of it.

The layers can be revelation knowledge and wisdom, time spend in the word, prayer, praise, and personal devotion. All can be helpful in drawing us into a closer, more intimate relationship with God.
Double Chocolate Lava Baby Cakes

Servings:
Makes 6 servings

Ingredients:
3/4 cup  butter
6 ounces  semisweet chocolate pieces (1 cup)
1 recipe Praline Sauce (see below)
3 eggs
3 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup pecan halves, toasted

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease and flour six 1- to 1 1/4-cup souffle dishes or six 10-ounce custard cups. Place souffle dishes or custard cups in a shallow baking pan and set pan aside. In a heavy small saucepan melt butter and semisweet chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool.

2. Meanwhile, prepare Praline Sauce, cover and keep warm until needed.

3. In a large mixing bowl beat eggs, egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer on high speed about 5 minutes or until thick and lemon colored. Beat in cooled chocolate mixture on medium speed. Sift flour and cocoa over chocolate mixture; beat on low speed just until combined. Divide batter evenly into prepared dishes or cups.

4. Bake 10 minutes. Pull cakes out of oven. Using a small spatula or table knife, puncture top of each partially-baked cake and gently enlarge to make a dime-sized hole. Slowly spoon about 1 tablespoon Praline Sauce into center of each cake. Return cakes to oven. Bake 5 minutes more or until cakes feel firm at the edges.

5. Cool in dishes on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Using a small spatula or knife, loosen cake edges from sides of dish or cup and slip cake out upright onto individual dessert plates. Stir 1/3 cup toasted pecan halves into the remaining Praline Sauce. If necessary, stir 1 to 2 tablespoons hot water into remaining sauce to thin. Spoon warm Praline Sauce on top of cakes. Top with pecan halves and sweetened whipped cream. Serve immediately. Makes 6 servings.

Praline Sauce

In a heavy medium saucepan combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup packed brown sugar and 2 tablespoons dark colored corn syrup. Stir in 1/2 cup whipping cream. Cook over medium-high heat until boiling, stirring constantly to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat. Cook, uncovered, 10 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Makes 1 cup sauce

Eileen's Idioms
"Put Your Foot Down"
"Mary Jane was unable to put her foot down on Rosie's late night snacks."

Meaning: to be firm or rigid about something.

Origin: Versions of this expression started in the 1500's, but became popular in the 1800's.  Stomping your foot down to get someone's attention sometimes expresses a strong position or demand. If you state a rule and expect someone to obey it you've "Put your foot down".
