| Greetings!
Happy New Year!
The front desk personnel are often overlooked when viewing the important internal functions of a long term care facility. It is one of the most important assets to a facility. Receptionists are the first to see new employees, residents and their families, volunteers, outside contractors, and other guests. Great multi-taskers, receptionists greet people, while answering telephones and making people feel welcome. Whether it is Mary greeting you on your first or fiftieth visit, Brad answering your call, Donald explaining how to get to the entertainment, Jason answering any questions you may have or Kim taking the extra time to listen, our front desk staff will be cheerful and professional. This special group of people is dedicated to service. Their genuine concern for each resident and visitor will convince you that Riverview Estates is where the Spirit lives. If you have any questions about the facility or how to get more information, please feel free to call the front desk at 856-829-2274 Ext. 157. We are happy to answer any question or direct you to someone who could be of more help!

| "Ask Jane" Director of Social Services |
Dear Jane,
I heard from someone that Medicare will pay for shoes. Is this true and if it is how do I go about getting them?
Signed, Kris from Palmyra
Dear Kris,
Medicare does cover the cost of shoes for diabetics only. The individual must have Medicare Part B (Medical ) coverage. Medicare allows one pair of diabetic shoes and three sets of inserts per calendar year. If the individual resides in a long term care facility they must be a resident for at least one hundred and one days and cannot be there for physical therapy only. The individual must have a prescription with diagnosis plus a medical necessity form to be filled out by the doctor who is treating them for their diabetes. Medicare does not cover shoe modifications such as lifts or wedges. Medicaid will cover the cost of one pair of shoes every six months if the individual has a physical foot problem such as hammertoes, bunions, ulcerations or foot deformity. Medicaid covers shoe modifications such as lifts and wedges. The individual cannot have any other HMO insurance such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Amerihealth, etc. (Medicaid will not pay if the individual has any other secondary insurance). A prescription must include all modifications with a diagnosis. If you go to a shoe store that specializes in prescription shoes they can supply you with a medical necessity form (which you would take to your doctor to complete) and bill Medicare or Medicaid for you. Sincerely,
If you or someone you know has a question you would like to ask Jane please email you questions to jane@riverviewestates.org and put "ask Jane" in the subject line. I will post a question and its response in each month's newsletter.

Question: What are the most popular resolutions that are made going into the New Year?
The answer to that question is as varied as there are people making resolutions. Resolutions generally focus on the desire for change, whether in a condition or situation; and the belief that something or someone will benefit from that change in a positive matter. Pittsburgh Newsletter listed the most poplar resolutions as: spending more time with family and friends; becoming healthy/fit through regular exercise; quitting smoking and drinking thereby enjoying life more; getting out of debt; learning something new; helping others and getting organized. All of these are reasonable and on some level can be achieved.

| Eileen's Idioms | | "KEEP UP WITH THE JONESES" | |
"My neighbor Karl got a new car, so my brother got one too. He has to keep up with the joneses."
Meaning: To try to keep up with what your neighbors have socially and financially: to work hard to have possessions as good as your neighbors
Origin: in 1913 a popular comic strip called "Keeping up with the Joneses" appeared in many American newspapers, starting with the New York Globe. The cartoon was about the experiences of a newly married young man, and the cartoonist based it on his own life. He chose the name Jones because it was a popular name in America. The name of the comic strip became a popular expression that meant to try hard to follow the latest fashion and live in the style of those around you.
