| Greetings!
Summer has started and there are many places for you to go on vacations, day trips, etc. Please put our Annual Fine Arts & Peach Festival, held on the Delaware River at 303 Bank Avenue in Riverton, on your list.
The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with the Fine Arts Festival. Peruse the artists' splendid works, while live musicians perform. After enjoying the art and music, take the time to have a nice lunch on the river.
Beginning at noon, the Baptist Home Auxiliary will be ready to sell ice cream, cake, peaches and other peach delights, such as peach cobbler, peach pies, etc. The Auxiliary room will be open for those who don't want to be outside too long. Come, listen to music of yesteryear, dance if you would like, buy gently worn men's and women's clothes, attic treasures, books, boxed cards, linen & things, etc. Have a great time! Closing will not be until 4:00 p.m.
Come down for a fun day at Riverview Estates. Visit our wonderful home, "Where the Spirit Lives".

| "Ask Jane" Director of Social Services |
Dear Jane,
My Aunt recently moved into an Assisted Living Facility and has suddenly stopped speaking to me. The social worker at the facility assures me that she is doing well and making friends, but she is so hostile to me when I visit her. What can I do to repair our relationship? We have always been so close. Signed, Judy in New Jersey
Dear Judy,
Have you ever heard the old saying "we only hurt the ones we love"? Many people are resistant to change even if they are part of the decision making process. I am sure that if the social worker has assured you that your aunt is doing well and making friends that she is. My suggestion would be that if she is shutting you out or being extremely rude that you take some time away to let her adjust to her new surroundings. Most likely what will happen is that she will start to miss you and realize all of the wonderful things that you do to help her.
You can always call the facility to see how she is doing without her knowing that you are checking up on her. I am sure that your aunt was a very independent person and is having a difficult time having to depend on others for assistance. She will also probably hold all her complaints for you as well. Often family members will try to make you feel guilty about your decision to place them into a facility. You may realize that this is what is best for her, but she may have unrealistic expectations. When living alone, seniors tend to become isolated and withdrawn. When they are around peers they become more active and tend to have less health complaints. When the brain is actively stimulated with activities it has a positive effect on our memory.
Give your aunt some time to adjust. Encourage her to seek out the social worker if she has concerns at the facility. This will give you an opportunity to have a pleasant visit. Plan something fun such as going out for lunch. Remember to take some time to care for yourself as well. Don't forget the social worker at the facility has experience in this area and he/she can be a great resource.
If you or someone you know has a question you would like to ask Jane please email you questions to jane@riverviewestates.org and put "ask Jane" in the subject line. I will post a question and its response in each month's newsletter.

| Eileen's Idioms | | "Tough Nut to Crack" | |
"Theresa is a tough nut to crack, when it concerns revealing her manicotti ingredients"
Meaning: A problem that is very difficult to understand or solve.
Origin: Benjamin Franklin used this expression, which had been popular since the early 1700's. In those days people didn't buy nuts that had already been cracked out of their shells. They had to do the cracking by hand, and some nuts were tough to crack. Later, the meaning came to include any kind of complicated jam or a person who was hard to persuade.
