Greetings!

The staff of Riverview Estates is committed to the residents and their families.  As Director of Dining Services, I am proud of how hard the staff works to offer a fine dining experience.   We are thoroughly trained, from setting the table to plating and serving meals, in order to offer the best in meal service.  The meals are prepared home style and bring back memories of being at home.  We strive to create and prepare the finest and most tasty food we can to give to our residents.  For special ambience, we complete your meal with a wonderful view of the Delaware River from our main dining room.

Michael Lynerd, the Assistant Director of Dining Services, and I, Theresa Romano, Director of Dining Services, are hired through Sodexo Senior Services.  I have been able to work at Riverview Estates for the last 7 years through the Sodexo/Riverview Estates contract.  I feel as much a Riverview Estates employee as I do a Sodexo employee.  I am very involved with the special events at Riverview Estates by offering food ideas that complement the specific occasion.

Dining Services offers a full catering menu.  Catering can include appetizers, salad, main courses, sides, and desserts.  Rooms are also available to celebrate any special including birthdays, holidays, and many more.   Together, we can plan the perfect celebration for your family.  Please call Theresa Romano at 856-829-2274 Ext. 140 to plan your next party at Riverview Estates, or to order your catering.

Riverview Estates has a feel that no other Nursing facility can offer.   As Director of Dining Services I invite you to come join us for a complimentary lunch.  Come, see and taste the difference at Riverview Estates.

Dinner and Piano Concert with
Donald Bermender

Donald Bermender, a resident of Riverview Estates for over 3 years, is hosting and performing at a dinner concert January 23, 2010.  Donald has graced our residents with numerous piano concerts during his stay and everyone thoroughly enjoys his music.  As a way of giving back to his new home, Riverview Estates, a free will offering will be collected following his concert.  Donald has designated that all proceeds are to go to the benevolent fund which benefits our residents who cannot financially afford their care.

Dinner will be in the Riverview Estates Auxiliary Room at 6:00 pm at a cost of $20.00 per person.  Anyone is welcome to join us at 7:00 pm for the concert.  For more information, please contact Donna Maratea at 856-829-2274, extension 151.  Thank you for supporting this very special event.
"Ask Jane" Director of Social Services

Dear Jane,

My mother has Medicare parts A & B, but what is this part D drug coverage all about?  Does my mother need to sign up for it and when can she do that?  She has PAAD (Pharmacy Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) in New Jersey.  Why does she need a Medicare prescription plan too?
Signed,
Puzzled in Palmyra

Dear Puzzled,

Medicare offers prescription drug coverage (Part D) to everyone with Medicare. To get Medicare drug coverage, you must join a plan run by an insurance company or other private company approved by Medicare. Each plan can vary in cost and drugs covered.

If you have limited income and resources, you may qualify for Extra Help from Medicare to pay for prescription drug coverage. You may also be able to get help from your state.

To join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, you must have Medicare Part A and/or Part B.

You can join, switch, or drop a Medicare drug plan at these times:

  1.  When you are first eligible for Medicare (the 7-month period that begins 3 months before the month you turn age 65, includes the month you turn age 65, and ends 3 months after the month you turn age 65).
  2. If you get Medicare due to a disability, you can join during the 3 months before to 3 months after your 25th month of disability. You will have another chance to join 3 months before the month you turn age 65 to 3 months after the month you turn age 65.
  3. Between November 15-December 31 each year. Your coverage will begin on January 1 of the following year, as long as the plan gets your enrollment request by December 31.
  4. Between January 1-March 31 of each year if you already have Medicare prescription drug coverage.
  5. Anytime, if you qualify for Extra Help or if you have both Medicare and Medicaid.
In most cases, you must stay enrolled for that calendar year starting the date your coverage begins. However, in certain situations, you may be able to join, switch, or drop Medicare drug plans during a special enrollment period (like if you move out of the service area, lose other creditable prescription drug coverage, or live in an institution).

Once you choose a Medicare drug plan, you may be able to join by completing a paper application, calling the plan, or enrolling on the plan's Web site or on www.medicare.gov. You can also enroll by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

Those who are eligible for Medicaid or PAAD must enroll since they are considered dually eligible.  For these two programs there are no monthly premiums and with PAAD they would just pay the reduced amount for their medication.

Eileen's Idioms
"Once In A Blue Moon"
This phrase refers to something that is rare, special, uncommon-but not impossible.
The most popular definition of a blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month.
A full moon occurred on December 2 and a second full moon appeared on December 31.
This phenomenon occurs every 2.5 years (the next will be August, 2012).
A New Year's Eve blue moon is more exceptional; the next won't occur until 2028.
