Personality! Some say you either have it or you don't. The truth is that God has given each and every one of us a unique personality, and this week we are going to help you discover what your personality looks like to better help you serve in the Kingdom of God.
Personality can be defined as an organized set of characteristics possessed by a person that uniquely influences the way a person thinks, feels, and acts. In that case, understanding what you think about certain things, how you feel about certain things, and how you act or react in certain situations will better equip you to find fulfillment in serving God. But how, you ask? We begin by looking at how we relate to one another and how we respond to opportunities. For example, when you discover whether you are invigorated by people or exhausted by people, whether you like creating ideas or accomplishing tasks, or whether you like to work alone or in groups, you begin to understand your inner motivations and how they impact your daily life. You need to be individually aware of how God wired your unique personality so you can accomplish the purpose for which you were designed.
To start the process of better understanding your unique personality, take this personality test. The test will take about 10 minutes and generates a free personality report at the end. Follow these instructions:
- Register with your name and email. Your information remains confidential.
- Answer the series of questions. If you don't understand a question, just choose between the two options and move on to the next one.
- Submit your answers and instantly receive your results.
- Look for the email link on the results page. Email your report to pam@fbcmarionark.org.
- Your personality will be added to your SHAPE profile.
- For further insight (with a minimal cost), you can
purchase indepth reports, but the free report is more than enough to get
started in understanding your personality.
This test is a helpful tool to gain insight into your personality, but it cannot replace a firsthand conversation with the Creator of your personality. The Bible reminds us that God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart (1 Samuel 16:7, The Message). Ask God to help you understand how he designed your personality to make you useful to him. Finally, remember that understanding your personality is not just an exercise in self-discovery for its own sake; rather, it is a way to grow as a Christian and make your thoughts and actions become more like Christ's. |
Today's Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for giving each of us a unique personality. We understand that you desire for us to better understand ourselves so we can be used for your glory. As we continue to discover our SHAPE for ministry help us to take an introspective look at how we are different from others, how we are the same, and how that affects the way we work together in the body of Christ.
