Caring for People Who Care for Pets | August 2010 |

Greetings!
The amount we read has TRIPLED (thanks World Wide Web) from 1980 to 2008. Those who study such things say the average person consumes---either reads or hears---100,500 words every day!
No doubt the Internet has made it possible for us to communicate more often and with more people. We can also find almost any information we are looking for...even though it may not be the most credible or trustworthy...
In the midst of this sea of words, World by the Tail, Inc. has made a commitment to providing you with an Internet resource you and your clients can trust. Our new referral website helps you help your clients who must prepare to face the loss of a pet.
And, yes, we do this with more words to read! But, we think they're the RIGHT words at the RIGHT time.
We want to make it quick and easy for you to provide your clients with information they need---the same information you would give them yourself if you had an hour or more to spend with them...
It's all described in our new free referral brochure called We Care: Veterinary Wisdom about Preparing for Loss. If you're a current customer, you'll be receiving samples in the mail soon. If you haven't tried ClayPaws® Kits yet, but would like to see the brochure, click here to order a free sample.
And, let me know what you'd like to see added to this site by emailing me here. We truly want this referral information to work for you. We want it to be your wisdom! In the Spirit of Teamwork, Laurel P.S. If you'd like to link your practice's website with our referral site, click on Linking to Us and follow the directions you'll find there. This is the fastest way to provide your clients with our reliable information! |

Words of Wisdom
Our friend, Jean, has joined the blogging world. She is mainly writing about her experiences with her lovely horses, Bud and Pepper.
However, her cat, Mija, has protested the lack of a cat in her posts, and is now offering up her wisdom to readers each Wednesday! What is it about Wednesdays and wisdom?! We thought you would enjoy a piece of wisdom from Mija. Go visit Jean, Mija, and the rest of the gang over at her blog, Two Old Horses and Me.
"Just living is not enough, said the butterfly. One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower." --Hans Christian Anderson
It's Wednesday and that means another potcast from Mija.
You may notice that she is sending her message to you from a different pot this week. In fact, she has three pots in different locations in the yard that she rotates between. In the heat of summer, she favors lying in the shade. And a bed of potting soil that has been slightly dampened makes excellent air conditioning.

When Should I Get a New Pet?
by Dana Durrance, MA
Deciding whether or not to adopt a new pet after a much-loved one has died can be tricky and confusing. Intellectually, we know that every relationship we have with our pets is unique so it's impossible to find another animal to "replace" the one that has died. Unfortunately, the emotional side of our selves doesn't always read the same grief manual. It's normal to want a loved one back and so the impulse to adopt a new pet comes from a genuine place of pain and sadness. Adopting a new pet may make us feel good in the moment, but what happens when we realize that this new pet is nothing like our other companion?
The key lies in WHY we want to adopt a new pet. If the desire to adopt a new pet stems from the desperate need to "replace" a pet, it's probably not a good idea. Read the rest of the article here... If you'd like to discuss this article or other issues related to the family-pet bond, come blog with us at www.vetwisdomcafe.com

How to Drill a Baked ClayPaws® Print
by Tammy Durham If a ClayPaws® print has already been baked, but you want to display the print by hanging if from a ribbon, you can make a small hole near the top of the print by drilling into the modeling compound. We suggest you position the location of the hole so that the upper edge of the finished hole will be at least 1/2 inch from the top edge of your ClayPaws® print. First, place the ClayPaws® print on a clean, flat surface. Be sure the surface is an item you won't mind drilling into (eg. a piece of scrap wood, a work bench, etc.)! Next, measure down from the top of the print to determine the center of the hole (about 3/4 of an inch). Drill an initial, small hole using an 1/8 inch twist drill bit. Use a very slow speed and very light pressure on the drill. Once you've drilled all the way through, switch to a larger drill bit (up to 1/4 inch) to make a larger, final hole. Add a ribbon or cord and hang your ClayPaws® print! |
