Leadership and prophetic witness:
a new generation, active, visible and powerful |
June 27, 2012
Greetings!
While I know God has called many of us here to vital ministry in the wider world, it is at home - the place where our roots run deepest and we are most deeply known - where the witness of our changed and changing lives is most clearly felt. Whatever happens this week, whatever we say or do together here, it will be the living water we bring home that makes a difference.
Like many Friends at the Sixth World Conference of Friends in Kenya, I was deeply moved by the words of Noah Baker Merrill of New England Yearly Meeting. One of the striking things about the Conference was the leadership and prophetic witness of young adults from around the world. Young adults, approximately one-quarter of all delegates, were fully integrated into the work of the Conference as home group and thread group leaders, pastoral care providers and plenary speakers.
The local FWCC gatherings this year will be opportunities for all generations to come together. The new theme "Let the Living Water Flow! Friends Serving God's Purposes" was inspired by Noah's words.
Young adult Friends from across the Americas will be among those travelling to local meetings as ministers. Other young Friends will participate in the Quaker Youth Pilgrimage in Europe this summer. We are already planning for the next QYP to be held in South America for the first time. Visit our website for more information on both programs.
We would like to develop even more leadership opportunities for young adult Friends at the local and international levels. Please give generously to the Friends World Committee to support young Friends in their continued spiritual growth and service to Friends everywhere.
In friendship,
Robin Mohr
Executive Secretary
