Greetings!

This fall we are bringing local events on the theme of the planned 2012 Sixth World Conference of Friends to eleven Friends meetings in the USA, two Quaker locations in Mexico and to Eastern Mennonite University. More fall locations are in the pipeline. While we call them "local events", wherever you live, you are welcome to attend. In many places, home hospitality is offered. Check out the list of locations - we hope to see you!

Thanks to all the hosts for their hard work in planning, and for the welcome that you are extending.

Sincerely,

Felicity McCartney (Ireland YM) and  Sheila Hoyer (Northwest YM) will share what they have experienced through reconciliation work in Northern Ireland and provide opportunities to relate this to current issues of 'brokenness' that Friends are facing in their communities.

Anne Bennett (Britain YM) will share stories of building peace through her work at Quaker House Belfast and in Africa, Europe and the Middle East  Anne will provide opportunities to relate her experiences to current issues of 'brokenness' that Friends are facing in their communities. Anne will be joined at several events by Rachel Stacy (Baltimore YM) who will also speak to the theme. We hope Friends will take away something that is relevant - both practically and spiritually - to our lives today.

An FWCC program provides time for worship in the manners of Friends, small group sessions and time for fellowship, within the framework of FWCC's mission to bring Friends of varying traditions and cultural experiences together in worship, communications and consultation, to express our common heritage and our Quaker message to the world.

Consider hosting a Salt & light event
Events will be planned until just before the Sixth World Conference of Friends, April 17-25, 2012 in Nakuru, Kenya.  We are currently looking for host sites for next spring and fall.  If you think your meeting may be interested in hosting an event for Friends in your area, please contact us.

We also invite you to consider how you can 'Be Salt and Light' in your meeting and in your community.  Friends in Cuba Yearly Meeting and in Pacific Yearly Meeting are already doing this. At family camp and quarterly meetings, they are asking questions such as:

  • Like salt that serves to preserve...how do we 'preserve' lives?
  • Does our way of living show that we are children of the Light?
  • What is my testimony in a broken world? My responsibility with the kingdom of God?
  • What would it mean to "be" salt in relation to another?  In the life of your meeting?
  • Is there salt and light at work in your monthly meeting? Would you like there to be?
