FWCC's International Planning Committee (IPC) began meeting today at the site of the 2012 World Conference in Nakuru, Kenya.  Among other things, the IPC will decide on study materials and writers for online and print pre-conference resources, as well as their translation into multiple languages. They will also determine the amount of funding to be raised for the Travel and Accommodation Fund. This fund ensures world-wide participation of Friends in the conference.

The Africa Section of FWCC will hold its Triennial Conference May 13-16 in Bungoma, Kenya, with the theme "They will listen to my voice and become one flock" (John 10:16).  Members of the IPC, representing all four FWCC Sections, will be in attendance.

Lastly, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), FWCC's world governing board, is set to meet in Nairobi following the Africa Section gathering. The CEC agreed several years ago to hold its regular gatherings in conjunction with Section meetings.  Their last meeting was in 2009 after the Section of the Americas Annual Meeting in Portland, OR.

Spirit Rising, new book by young Friends, debuts
The Quaker YoSpirit Risinguth Book Project of Quakers Uniting in Publications (QUIP) released its newest publication: Spirit Rising:Young Quaker Voices at QUIP's recent annual meeting.

The book "celebrates, critiques, questions, and reflects on the Quaker faith experience. Writing and visual art by teenage and young adult Quakers from around the world and across the theological and cultural spectrum of the Religious Society of Friends give readers a window on the spiritual riches and witness these Friends offer."

The editorial board - young adult Friends from varied theological and cultural backgrounds themselves - collected submissions by email and post. One board member delivered handwritten narratives obtained only after extensive and challenging travel. As part of their preliminary work, editorial board members offered writing workshops for young Friends.

FWCC is a member of QUIP and was one of several sponsors of a recent writers conference that was held at QUIP's annual meeting.  Spirit Rising: Young Quaker Voices is published by Quakerbooks.org of Friends General Conference and can be ordered from the online bookstore.
