Concept Fan? What are You Talking About?
Stuart Scott, de Bono Thinking Systems Master Trainer/Facilitator
Some people have "hang ups" over certain words and
what they mean. Our use of simpler words or phrases
can make it easier for people to understand the
question.
For example, I have found when using the words
"Concept Fan" or "Concept Extraction" people often
think it is far more difficult than it actually is.
Tip: I now explain this by saying "What's the idea
behind the idea"? Or, "What are the ideas behind
the idea?".(There can be more than one)
People really catch on very quickly when I explain
it this way.

A Great Tool: Checklist of Current Thinking
Planning Ahead for Robust Meeting Participation
Tip: To prepare people for robust meeting
discussions prepare and circulate a Checklist of
Current Thinking to
the group to complete before the meeting. For
example:The group is meeting with the aim to
figure out how to become more innovative. A Current
Thinking Checklist could look like this: When you
think about innovation at our company today: 1. What
dominates your thinking about innovation at our
company today? 2. What boundaries do we work within
when we are trying to be more innovative today? 3.
What assumptions do we make about innovation at our
company today? 4. What essential factors do we always
include when we are trying to be more innovative
today - what has to be
there? 5. What do we always try to avoid when
we are trying to become more innovative today?
