Penninsula Gallery Presents
Steve Rogers and Karin Snoots
"Art Preserves Our History"
Opening Reception
Saturday September 1st
5:30-7:30 PM
Beginning with an opening reception, Saturday, September 1st 5:30-7:30 PM, the Peninsula Gallery, 520 E Savannah Rd, Lewes DE, will feature an exhibit by two well known local artists Steve Rogers and Karin Snoots in a show entitled "Art Preserves Our History". The show will feature new work by each artist and will run to the end of September.

Steve Rogers has long been known for his maritime scenes presented with a clear and purposeful realism inviting us to focus on their history and contribution to our local life. With a boat at the dock or "on the hard", the images present boats from a past of hard work and tough times.   Other paintings of buildings, farmlands, and marshes, bear witness to our long farming, and seaside heritage. The artistic achievement, that is considerable, is the blending of these messages on a canvas that harnesses light and shadow to capture the dignity and pathos of these structures.   Steve is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. In 2005 he was the recipient of the Established Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Karin Snoots's art celebrates nature and its important contribution to our lives. She is passionate about the ocean, its immensity and majesty and it serves as a great emotional force in her work.   In other work Karin captures realistic portraits of animals, her pets, and the land with nature's bounty.   Her fundamental mission is to have her art serve as a catalyst for environmental awareness and conservation. Karin has formal training as a commercial illustrator but her passionate interest in nature has moved her art far beyond illustration. In 2008, she was chosen by The Delaware Division of the Arts to receive an Individual Artist Fellowship grant in the Emerging Professional category. She is a signature member of both the American Society of Marine Artists and Artists for Conservation Foundation and a member of the Ocean Artists Society.

In the current show Karin has dedicated a portion of the sale of one of her paintings to support the Marine Education Research and Rehabilitation Institute(MERR). In addition Karin is collaborating with MERR in the design of a Delaware Automobile license plate that will feature themes of conservation and the states natural beauty.

In a very real sense the show is a celebration of art and artist as a catalyst.   In their realistic portraits of our world, past and present, these artists educate, asking us to look to our past and to conserve and learn from it.
