May 2, 2012: EFD Guided Tour at Offshore Technology Conference (Houston,TX)
The Environmentally Friendly Drilling program is hosting an inaugural guided tour at the upcoming Houston Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). Our program goal is to identify cost effective technologies which can reduce the environmental footprint; and there are many good technologies that are being applied offshore that have applicability on-shore. If you have never been to the OTC, it is amazing to say the least. Over 80,000 people will attend, and there are literally thousands of vendors covering all of Reliant Center, the Reliant Arena and two tents the size of football fields, and there are many more outside booths. This is in addition to several parallel technical sessions going on for 4 days. While you may want to make a day of it, the tour is scheduled for Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 1- 5pm.The guided EFD tour has limited availability and registration is free.

The EFD program, funded by federal, state and foreign government agencies, industry and environmental organizations, provides unbiased science to policy makers and identifies, develops and tests new technologies, processes and systems to reduce the environmental footprint associated with oil and gas activities, from well site selection through natural gas compression. The program, approximately $4 million per year, is engaged in research and technology transfer activities from the Western Slope of the Rockies to the Ukraine, and from the North Slope of Alaska to Columbia (South America). Research includes land, air and water issues, as well as public perception investigations. The program was honored with the Chairman's Stewards Award for Environmental Partnership at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
