Mark your calendars for the United Way campaign at SLHS metro campuses

 United Way

  • Saint Luke's Hospital goal: 10 percent increase in participation
  • SLHS goal: 10 percent increase in participation

This year, Saint Luke's Health System is joining a select group of 10

high-performance businesses by becoming a pacesetter for the 2012 United Way campaign. Organizations that accept the pacesetter challenge set the standard for leadership and community support by running effective campaigns during the mid-to-late summer months, prior to the citywide kickoff in early September. Representing the health care industry in Kansas City, the Saint Luke's campaign results will be announced during the kickoff event and hopefully inspire our peer organizations to also run successful campaigns, thereby increasing the resources available to meet community needs throughout the Kansas City metro area.

The United Way funds a network of 300-plus programs offered by more than 150 agencies helping all kinds of people with all kinds of needs in the five-county Kansas City area, including SLHS's own Crittenton Children's Center, Midwest Ear Institute at Saint Luke's Hospital, Cabot Westside Medical and Dental Center, and The Children's SPOT.

By combining the resources of the five metropolitan United Way organizations, the United Way aims "to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community."

Why United Way?

Giving to the United Way:

  • Multiplies your gift by leveraging funds. When you invest in United Way, your gift is multiplied. Leveraging your gift with matching grants and gifts-in-kind means more lives can be improved.
  • Combines the knowledge of the community to address issues. United Way brings together the knowledge and expertise of volunteers, agencies, and local experts to make sure the community's most important needs are addressed. These issue teams make sure your gift is doing the most good for the greatest number of people in our community.
  • Gathers people together to solve community problems. United Way works with the entire community. It takes everyone to get the kind of results we need to build solutions. Experience tells us that the best way to help the most people is to focus on the root cause of the most serious problems.
  • Brings services to your family and friends. With United Way's 2-1-1, it's easy to get or give help. Simply dial 2-1-1 to be connected with community resources and volunteer opportunities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
