Preview of 2013 benefit changes

It's time to bring your spouse into the wellness strategy

As we approach the 2013 benefits annual enrollment period, we want to let employees know it's time to add the SLHS spouses covered on the Saint Luke's medical plan into the SLHS wellness credit strategy.

 

We have heard from several employees asking us to include their spouses in our different wellness activities, and we listened to you!

 

SLHS spouses covered on the SLHS medical plan have always had the opportunity to go into the Aetna website (www.aetna.com) and establish a separate log-in account. SLHS spouses have also had the opportunity to complete the Aetna "Simple Steps to a Healthier Life" health assessment, following the same steps all SLHS employees use to complete their annual health assessments.

 

Starting with the 2013 benefit plan year, for SLHS employees to receive the full wellness premium credit for "Employee plus Spouse" and "Family" coverage, their spouses will be required to also complete the Aetna "Simple Steps to a Healthier Life" health assessment.

 

If the spouse on the SLHS medical plan does not complete his or her wellness criteria, the employee will only receive 50 percent of the 2013 wellness premium credit, and the spouse will have to pay the $750 deductible should he or she require care at a SLHS facility.

The chart below shows how SLHS's wellness premium strategy is changing in 2013. Please note the strategy has changed since the initial communication during the 2011 benefits annual enrollment plan year.

As you can see above, all SLHS spouses covered on the SLHS medical plan will also need to complete an adult wellness exam during 2012 or 2013 for the SLHS employee to receive the full 2014 wellness premium credit.

 

Keep working toward better health

 

SLHS employees have been working hard to live healthier lifestyles and improve their metabolic numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.) to a healthy range. It's now time for SLHS spouses to join employees in our efforts to get healthier. Remember that all SLHS medical plan covered members impact our future medical premium increases.

As part of our continued effort to be "green," employees will receive a brochure explaining changes at the end of September. All benefits enrollment information will be online in October. All employees will also receive the HealthStream eLearning assignment Oct. 1.
