Minor care now available at SLH Monday - Friday
Effective Monday, June 18, the availability of minor mare services offered at SLH Employee Health will be expanded to Monday - Friday for Saint Luke's Health System employees.
Employees can be evaluated and treated for minor, non-work-related injuries and illnesses for a $25 fee (SLH employees can use payroll deduction. All other SLHS employees will need to pay by check.) A nurse practitioner or physician will evaluate the condition and prescribe medications as needed. A variety of tests are available as part of the service including pregnancy tests, screening for urinary tract infections, throat cultures, and X-rays. Chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol, would not fall under the scope of minor care, and would prompt a referral to a primary care physician for treatment.
SLH Employee Health has seen more than 1,000 employees for minor care since the initiation of this service in 2002. Some of the most common complaints evaluated include urinary tract infections, strep throat, pink eye, ear infections, skin rashes, and sprains/strains.
Minor care is a walk-in service available 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. Employee Health is located in Medical Plaza I, Suite 624. For questions, please call SLH Employee Health at ext. 23176 or 816-932-3176.

Winners receive $600 to be used to pay for all or part of the expenses of a continuing education course to benefit a new or existing program in pursuit of the department or hospital goals of clinical excellence.
A nomination committee of rehabilitation department staff members from physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech pathology review the application packets of the nominee and select candidates who best represent the spirit of clinical excellence intended by the award.
Past recipients have included rehabilitation department leaders and master clinician/mentors: Jackie Wallman, OT; Celeste Haas, SLP; Elizabeth Randolph, SLP; Jeannie Gottschalk, PT; John Corbaley, SLP; Jill Jones, SLP; March Riedel, OT; and Sarah Tappe-Keller, OT.

Called to Excellence - new ad campaign
After months of work, the first TV commercials in the new Saint Luke's branding campaign have begun airing. They will appear on all of the local TV stations, primarily during the news. You can see a preview of the spots by clicking here and here.
Our intent was to create a non-traditional hospital advertising campaign that would break through the clutter. We chose to use patient testimonials, and to also incorporate metaphors to make the stories more visually interesting. The first ad features an attorney, Jean Robertson, who had a stroke mid-flight between Cleveland and Phoenix. The pilot made an emergency landing in Kansas City, and Jean was rushed to Saint Luke's Neuroscience Institute. Though there were complications that made her case more complicated, Jean emerged a few days later strong and vibrant - crediting the team at Saint Luke's with saving her life.
I hope you enjoy the new campaign. As always, I welcome your feedback.
- John Leifer, Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning and Marketing
