Weight loss is contagious! Catch it with Weight Watchers at Work.
New classes starting soon
We've known for several years that unhealthy behaviors are contagious and spread within social networks. But it turns out that healthy behaviors are contagious, too! When people exercise or lose weight, the people around them are more likely to do so as well. This may seem intuitive, but groundbreaking new research is showing us just how powerful teams, groups, and social interaction can be.
Weight Watchers at Work is a convenient way to meet with co-workers, get some great info on the best methods for losing weight, and celebrate the group's weight loss efforts. If you are ready to "catch" this epidemic of weight loss and improved health, register now for the Weight Watchers at Work program.
Classes won't start until we have 15 registered participants. If you register now, you can attend meetings in your community while waiting for on-site classes to begin. You will also have access to the online eTools, which allows you to track your weight and food intake. You also have access to recipes, points values for many different foods, and a social connection to other Weight Watchers members!
To register for the at work program, please use the following Saint Luke's portal information:

Jayne Boeck retirement party
Jayne Boeck, R.N., is retiring after 39 years of service with Saint Luke's Health System, of which the last 13 years have been in the Information Technology Department. Boeck started working as a nurse at Hibbard, Ballard, Thompson, Skillman and Forsythe and then moved to Westport Internal Medicine in 1982, which became Saint Luke's Internal Medicine clinic.
Through the years she held various nursing positions within SLHS before eventually joining us in Information Services in 1998. But sadly for us, all good things must come to an end. After 30 years of dedicated service to SLHS, Boeck has announced her retirement! Her last day with us will be Friday, May 4.
Please come help her celebrate at the Lee's Summit Data Center in the AB Conference Room, May 4, from 12 - 3 p.m. Cake and refreshments will be served.

KU collected 415 lbs, MU collected 1,032 lbs, and the winner, K-State, collected 1,129 lbs of food! As a whole, the technology center donated more than 1.25 tons of food which provides approximately 1,922 meals for those in need. Patient safety updates
Fall prevention and specimen labeling
IMPACT, the Falls Prevention PI Team, encourages you to have an IMPACT on patient falls. Anyone who has contact with a patient can help reduce the risk of a patient fall in the hospital. The results of a fall can be devastating for the patient and their family. Not sure how you can make a difference? Stay tuned - the IMPACT team will be reaching out to various departments to share how you can help.
The team would like to recognize CICU, Labor and Delivery, Main 5, and NSICU for having a fall-free first quarter! Excellent work! You are proving that most falls are preventable. In addition, the entire hospital went 10 straight days without a single fall in the past two weeks.
On the specimen labeling front, March was a good month with just a handful of errors. Congratulations to CVH/CVRU, EA1, EA2, EA3, EA4, EA5, EA7, EA8, EA9, ED, Lab Support, Main 5, MICC, NE5, NSICU, Nursery, PACU, Radiology, SICC, Surgery, and Transplant for having no labeling errors in March!
Labeling tip: Taking multiple patients' labels into a room is risky. It can set you up to make a mistake and grab the wrong patient's labels, especially if you get interrupted.
