Making eRounds masthead

Magnifying glassLast week SLHS completed the first phase of Focus 2015. Thanks to the help of employees from across the health system, we analyzed data in multiple areas and worked with our consultant, Deloitte, to compare how we perform with leading health care organizations from across the country.

We've now entered the second phase of the project. More than 30 teams of employees from across the system will begin evaluating ways we might make gains in key areas. Each team will make specific recommendations to the Focus 2015 steering committee in June.

Focus 2015 is about gaining efficiency while identifying ways to maximize quality and increase the value of SLHS as we anticipate changes in the years ahead. Because SLHS is such a strong and successful organization, we have a window of opportunity to both identify and reduce inefficiencies in our organization and at the same time proactively find new ways to grow our market share.

Deloitte is helping SLHS through each step of the Focus 2015 process by sharing its experience working with other leading health care organizations and making recommendations to SLHS for areas where we might consider making changes.

Your manager will receive additional information about Focus 2015 and be able to share additional details with you in early April.

Your ideas for how we can improve SLHS are an important part of this initiative. If you have suggestions for how SLHS might reduce costs or operate more efficiently, or if you have questions about Focus 2015, please send an email to Focus2015@saint-lukes.org.

Watch for updates about Focus 2015 in future issues of eRounds and Making Rounds.

Taking stock of SLHS workplace integrity

Did you know that your responses to these three statements on the Annual Employee Satisfaction Survey help our leaders understand the effectiveness of Saint Luke's Ethics and Compliance Program?
  • My leaders provide an environment that promotes legal/ethical behavior.
  • My co-workers follow ethical and legal behavior in the workplace.
  • I am comfortable reporting unethical/illegal behavior to my supervisor, the compliance office, or human resources.

These statements are meant to describe the integrity of our workplace tone and culture. How employees view these areas is important to gauge our collective intent to never settle for less than doing the right thing each and every day.

During employee performance reviews, each of us is asked to affirm that we understand and will abide by SLHS Shared Behaviors.

We acknowledge that we are expected to do the right thing and are responsible to make known any issues or concerns about workplace ethics, compliance, or privacy. Employees are protected from retaliation when submitting a report.

Be sure that your views about Saint Luke's workplace integrity are included in the Annual Employee Satisfaction Survey.
