| Check Out The New Website Link
|
As our council website prepares for a facelift in the next couple of months, we have set a new address to making it easier to remember. Our new address www.bsa3.org is now active and directs traffic to our council website. How did the Council Marketing Committee decide on this new address? It's simple to remember and 003 is our local council number assigned by National BSA; we are BSA3. By the way, we also own www.bsa003.org. Either way will get you there. Check it out and spread the news.

Philmont 2013
| Join Now
|
On June 27, 2013, the Alabama-Florida Council Philmont Contingent will embark on an adventure that will create memories and friendships that last a lifetime. You ask, "What is Philmont?" Philmont Scout Ranch is one of the BSA high adventure programs that offers backpacking treks located in the high mountain desert of New Mexico.
Now you ask, "Why would we travel all way to New Mexico to go hiking?" Because hiking in some of America's most beautiful land is just the means of travel to get to many activities that Philmont offers. A few examples: panning for gold, challenge course, Rich cabin, black powder shooting, spar-pole climbing and many more. Plus, you'll get a chance to see elk, mule deer and maybe a bear or mountain lion.
The learn more, visit their website www.philmontscoutranch.org
If you are interested in joining us on our adventure call the Scout Service Center at 334.793.7882, or email one of the contingent leaders, Mike Meadows at smtroop106@graceba.net

Bobcats All in 30 Days
| Now -- this month!
|
It's officially fall and we want to welcome all of our new Cub Scouts to the BSA and the Alabama-Florida Council!!! The first step for any new Cub Scout is your first badge - Bobcat. Many have come before you and have received their blue and gold Bobcat Badge by working in their Cub Scout Handbook. It may seem hard but just think of how great it will be when you receive your first Scouting award.
Leaders may see the Bobcat badge as a hurdle that is hard to get over. Remember to keep your boy-like spirit, make it a game, and use the knowledge of those that have come before you. The BSA has a great help item that will lead you down the trail of the Bobcat badge and give you a really great plan for your first month of Den Meetings.
You can find this great guide here: www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/510-232.pdf
Remember a couple of things:
The Cub Scout Retention Pledge asks that you have all new Cub Scouts earn their Bobcat badge in 30 days. Use the tools available and you will have happy Cub Scouts that will want to stay in Scouting.
There is TONS of help available to leaders if you will just look around. The internet is packed with program ideas, but nothing beats some good ole' face to face time with people that have been there before. Make sure you and all the leaders (and parents) from your Pack attend the monthly Roundtables -- a great resource to keep you moving along your Cub Scout Trail.
