Blastcar BSA
| Check it out now!
|
The newest thing with the BSA is creating a lot of buzz throughout the Scouting world. Blastcar BSA.
Blastcar BSA is a brand new racing event designed exclusively for Boy Scouts and its flat out full speed fun.
Similar to the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, the Boy Scout starts with a block of wood and develops a design that will be aerodynamic and super fast. Blastcars are fueled by CO2. CO2 canisters are steel cylinders filled with compressed CO2 fuel. The CO2 is removed from the air at the factory and then released at the race event-no new CO2 is created or added to the atmosphere. This is called a 'zero' event.
Our Council Activities Committee is considering a council Boy Scout Blastcar BSA event this fall. What do you think about this idea? Let us know by emailing dfowler@bsamail.org.

Tour and Activity Plan Update
| Now
|
The following is an update from National BSA:
There is a clarification on how Tour and Activity Plan displays CPR and First Aid as required training. When the category of 'Other' activity is selected, the message currently indicates that CPR and First Aid are needed. Please disregard this message as CPR and First Aid are not required for the 'Other' category in a Tour and Activity Plan. The Tour and Activity Plan process that sporadically sent confirmation emails to incorrect recipients has been corrected. Additionally, where the Tour and Activity Plan shows the Unit "Pick List" the volunteer's unit should now display for selection.
Additional information can be found on MyScouting.org.

Adopt-A-Campsite Update
| Now - before it is too late! Camp Alaflo
|
The Council Properties Committee is pleased to announce that great progress has been made on the Adopt-A-Campsite program!!!
Prior to Summer Camp, the first three adopted campsites completed construction of the improved bathroom facilities. These new bathrooms have individual showers and flush toilets in a design that offers unisex privacy. The adopted campsites are:
- Seminole -- LDS Church (bathroom completed)
- 201 Ranch -- Troop and Pack 38 (bathroom completed)
- Navajo -- Troop 77 and Troop 170 (bathroom completed)
- Apache -- Troop and Pack 10
- Menawa -- Pack 77
Still up for adoption are Mohawk, Kiowa, Cherokee, and Chipola. To adopt a campsite, a unit pays a $1500 fee, commits to improve the campsite starting with the improved bathroom, and pays an annual maintenance fee. The Council matches the initial fee and makes the money available for the improvements.
If you would like more information about adopting a campsite, email VP of Properties John McDaniel at jmcdaniel3233@yahoo.com.
