Wood Badge Training |
Weekend 1: February 24-26, Weekend II March 9-11 Camp Alaflo |
COURSE REGISTRATION DEADLINE SOON
Course Director David Martin would like to invite you to participate in the premier training program for all Scout leaders in the Boy Scouts of America. This includes all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Venturing Leaders, District and Council Committee members as well as Professional Scouters. Wood Badge is designed to train adult volunteers using the latest leadership skills and techniques. It is once in a life time training experience.
There are two parts to the Wood Badge course: The first part consists of two weekends of practical experience where you have the opportunity to learn skills and concepts that underlie the five themes of Wood Badge for the 21st Century.
The second part is a plan to apply what you learned in the practical course, your Ticket. You will create and carry out a plan of action. When that action is complete, you earn the recognition (beads, neckerchief, and woggle) that are the Wood Badge.
This course is conducted in accordance with the national training program for all adult leaders. National Council of Boy Scouts of America has called the program a "training continuum," to emphasize how all the parts of leader training fit together.
Scouts deserve trained leaders and trained leaders deserve the best program possible.

Saturday, March 3 Shoot at Camp Alafa |
COUNCIL FUNDRAISING EVENT
On Saturday, March 3rd, our council will host the 13th Annual Sporting Clays and Fun Shoot at Camp Alaflo in New Brockton, Alabama. As America's fastest growing shooting sport, sporting clays has been called "golf with a gun." Competitors move from station to station through the Boy Scout Camp along a challenging course designed and managed by a leader in the industry, Howell Shooting Supplies. At each station, targets are thrown mimicking hunting presentations. A shooter may encounter flushing "quail", high overhead "dove," bounding "rabbits," or the always challenging "springing teal" (straight up).
Sponsors, shooters and their spouses are invited to participate in the Shoot Reception & Auction on Friday, March 2nd at 6pm. Solomon Chevrolet & Cadillac, our event sponsor, will host the reception on their show room floor, 4886 Montgomery Highway, Dothan. Guests will enjoy dinner catered by Pepi Foods and an auction featuring guided hunts, guns, outdoor equipment plus other great items. Proceeds will benefit the Boy Scouts of America in lower Alabama and north Florida.
Sponsorships levels begin at $500 and incudes 4 team members. We are also seeking auction items and door prize donations. Unit leaders, please share with your parents!

NYLT
Though a challenging and fun program, Scouts learn leadership tools and skills and apply them within the Scouting context throughout the course, so that they can in turn carry these skills forward into their home troops or crews and other aspects of their lives such as school, family, church, and their future professions or careers.
The NYLT course is for mature Scouts and Venturers at least first class in rank and 13 years old, who want to become better leaders. Potential participants must be approved by their Scoutmaster / Venturing Advisor, and be in a leadership position or have to potential to do so, in their home unit. The NYLT Course is split over two weekends and all participants must be in attendance the entire time in order to complete the course. Our 2012 Course Director is James Turner. http://www.alflcouncilbsa.org/nylt.html |
