District showcase award winners announced for 2011, tours start Oct. 31
Indianapolis -- Four Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) projects will be highlighted among the best as 2011 District Showcase Award winners.
SWCDs that will be honored at the 2012 Conservation Awards Banquet on January 10 in Indianapolis are:
- Dubois County SWCD: Success in Utilizing Contribution Agreements . . . Accomplishing Conservation Work in Dubois County"
- Jasper County SWCD: "Protecting & Improving the Local Soil and Water Resources/Upper Iroquois Watershed Initiative, On-Farm Network & the Conservation Tillage Roundtable"
- Pike County SWCD: "Awesome Achievements in Conservation"
- Posey/Gibson/Vanderburgh/Warrick County SWCDs: "Cover Crop Aerial Seeding Cost-Share Project"
Indiana's District Showcase Award highlights the successes of county Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Specifically, the honor showcases how SWCDs are partnering with traditional and nontraditional groups, businesses, government agencies, local officials and volunteers to achieve local conservation needs and goals.
 The award is sponsored by the Indiana Conservation Partnership (ICP) which includes the IASWCD and its 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Department of Agriculture Division of Soil Conservation, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, State Soil Conservation Board, USDA Farm Service Agency, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
ICP representatives will tour the winning SWCDs beginning next week to view their projects. Tours begin:
