NEW LOCKERS HAVE ARRIVED
Available beginning April 9, 2012
You spoke up and we listened! We have been busy installing 112 new day-use lockers that will be available to use beginning Monday, April 9. They are much larger than those in the locker rooms and will accommodate your many books and workout gear! Additionally, they have keypad locks that allow you to set a unique combination to access them.

They are located throughout the facility in the following locations:
  • Across from the men's locker room on the second floor
  • Adjacent to the Fitness Center on the third floor
  • In the gymnasium near the dasher boards on the indoor soccer area on the third floor
  • Across from the cycle bikeson the fourth floor
  • The north Cardio Area on the fourth floor 

These are available for use while you are using the facility and like the day-use lockers in the locker rooms, items must be removed at the end of your visit, prior to leaving the Rec Center. These will replace the existing bag check offered at Equipment Checkout.  

DIVE-IN MOVIE

Spring Term's Dive-In Movie will feature The Goonies! Filmed in our own back yard, Astoria, OR, this is a classic not to be missed.

AMAZING RACE WITH A  TWIST

Like a challenge? Take on 10 Amazing Race challenges, solving clues and obstacles throughout the Rec Center. And, there's always a twist. There will be snacks, a FREE T-shirt, and prizes including a sweet Columbia Backpack for the 1st place winners! Register as an individual and be matched up with a teammate on the day of the Race or get a friend and register together and invite friends to sign up for some friendly competition. Registration for our Intramural leagues opens April 2 at Member Services. Hurry and register soon, as leagues fill up quickly! Registration will close on April 11 at 10pm or when leagues become filled, whichever occurs first. You must be a Rec Center member to sign up: $40/team or $5/free agent. All games are played on the ASRC Courts and Stott Field. No experience necessary!

NOURISH WELLNESS FAIR
May 9, 2012

FREE and open to all PSU students, faculty, and staff (no Rec Center membership required - just bring your PSU ID) on the Rec Center Courts on May 9, 2012 from 12-2 pm.  

   

Join us for an afternoon focused on wellness and resources available on campus and from our community to help enhance your quality of life. Attendees will be entered in a drawing to WIN A BIKE!! Activities will include bike helmets for ONLY $5, chair massages, body composition testing, gait analysis, acupuncture, healthy food samples, blood pressure screenings, and more! CASCADE CLASSIC GOALBALL TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Volunteers needed!
 
Food will be provided for volunteers. Please contact Jen Armbruster at 503-725-2947 or j.armbruster@pdx.edu by Monday April 16 to volunteer and set up training.  

We are looking for volunteers for the Cascade Classic held May 11 - 13 in Vancouver, WA which is a regional Goalball tournament that has teams from around the U.S. coming to earn a spot to the nationals. You do not need to know what Goalball is to volunteer. Training will be provided in April and volunteer opportunities include goal judges score sheet persons, timers and other table duties.

 

You will also catch a glimpse of the U.S. Women's team who will be divided up in the D1 bracket with their respective state teams. This team will be heading to London this summer to compete in the summer Paralympic games.

There are several time slots you can sign up for and you may sign up for more than one. Carpools can be arranged if needed. We will be using two gyms on Friday and Saturday at the School for the Blind and the School for the Deaf in Vancouver, WA.

ADAPTIVE SEA KAYAK TRIP
May 6, 2012

This is a chance for paddlers of all abilities to enjoy sea kayaking. This specific trip however is for individuals that have a disability and need modifications for the trip. Any level of disability or injury can be accommodated.   

 

This will be an all day trip and exact location will be determined closer to the trip date and dependent on those who sign up.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS

Youth Swim Lessons are on the following Saturdays, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19 (includes six lessons) and cost $30/series of lessons. Register at Member Services. For more detailed class descriptions, click here.

Quickly becoming the sport to play, Campus Rec is excited to offer our first ever Wheelchair Basketball Tournament! Come make history and hopefully a few baskets. Swim. Bike. Run. In this triathlon, fast is good, but distance is better! How far can you go in one hour? Compete as an individual or as a 3-person relay team in this mini triathlon, all taking place inside the Rec Center. Swim for 20 minutes in the ASRC Pool, bike for 20 minutes on a cycle bike in the multi-purpose room, and run for 20 minutes on the indoor track. FREE T-shirt included and prizes awarded! This 6 week training group will provide you with a detailed training plan to prepare you to finish Campus Rec's 20.20.20 Mini-Triathlon safe and strong! Participants will learn swim technique, how to use the cycle bikes, running drills, and race day strategy. Stay motivated with a group and cheer each other on during race day! Cost is $35 and includes entry to the race. Limited to first 24 participants. Contact orndorf@pdx.edu for more information.
