Greetings!

The Orleans Parish School Board has scheduled an auction for seven surplus properties on Thursday, November 8, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. and the auction beginning at 11 a.m. The auction will be held at the OPSB offices at 3520 General de Gaulle Drive.

The properties being offered at the auction are as follows:

  • New Orleans Free School - 3601 Camp Street
  • Pierre Capdau School - 3821 Franklin Avenue
  • Morris F. X. Jeff School - 800 N. Rendon Street
  • Timbers 1 & 2 Office Buildings - 3500 & 3510 General de Gaulle Drive
  • Algiers Bus Garage - 801 Patterson Drive
  • Former Seabrook Center Site - 2717 Athis Street
  • Former Lake Forest School Site - 8258 Lake Forest Boulevard

Information on the sales, all current appraisals, any available structural or environmental reports, formal showing dates and times, and persons available for contact can be viewed here.

Note that the first formal showings for some properties are this Friday, October 12, at 10 a.m.

The goals of the auction are to place idle properties back into use and/or commerce and to generate additional capital funds.

According to OPSB Policy D415, Sale of Buildings and Land, "Revenues derived from the sale of any school site, building, facility, or other immovable property shall be deposited in a specially designated Capital Improvements Fund for the acquisition, design, renovation, repair, construction, furnishing, or equipping of school board property." During the implementation of the Master Plan, OPSB has usually budgeted revenues from property sales for the acquisition of new school sites when necessary for some of the new Master Plan schools.

In accordance with State law, OPSB Policy E501, Charter School Facility Management states,"(T)he Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) shall make available to an approved Charter School operator any vacant school facility, or any facility slated to be vacant, for a cost or no-cost lease, or for purchase at fair market value on an 'as-is' basis." Any charter operator interested in acquiring one of these properties should attend a showing of the property and notify OPSB if still interested.
