Greetings!
The following report is from the first of two community meetings conducted by the Recovery School District to discuss new initiatives for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. The second meeting will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 6 p.m., Walter L. Cohen High School, 3520 Dryades.
Also, the quarterly meeting of the Committee of the Whole of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to discuss RSD matters will be also be held at Cohen High School following Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 6 p.m. A brief summary of and link to the agenda follow the meeting summary below.

The RSD held a Community Meeting on July 18 at the L. B. Landry HS to discuss three important new initiatives to be implemented during the 2012-2013 school year
Meeting Summary

- Student Enrollment and Transfer Policy
- To cover admission, readmission and transfers
- Addresses several enrollment challenges
- Confusion about enrollment
- Students who have never received enrollment assignments
- Parents who want to transfer students
- Schools that recommend that a student transfers schools
- RSD encouraging parents to complete school registration process before the school year begins
- Student Expulsion and the RSD Hearing Office
- All expulsions for RSD direct-run and charter schools will be processed by the Hearing Office
- Intent is to ensure due process and consistent application of rules
- All schools will use a common list of expellable and non-expellable offenses
- Crescent Leadership Academy at 4300 Almonaster Avenue will serve as the 7-12 alternative school, replacing Schwarz
- RSD will monitor, but not manage, suspensions at their charter schools
- Charters encouraged to use Response to Intervention and Positive Behavior Support approaches
- Parent Issue Resolution Process
- Seeks to clarify responsibilities for handling various issues among school sites, Parent Centers, or RSD Central Office
- RSD Central Office will have a single point of contact for parents and pledges improved services and quicker response times
