PUBLIC MEETING

Presentation Summary

"One Application. Many Choices."

  • Parents will submit one application for each child, not one for each school
    • This process applies only to RSD schools, direct-run and charter
    • This process is separate from the letters of intent to remain that some schools ask existing students to complete so all parents will need to submit an application even if a letter of intent has already been submitted
    • Applications will contain no spaces to indicate special needs in order to prevent discrimination in selection
  • Parents who want to apply to new RSD schools can list up to eight requested schools in rank order
  • Priorities are given for certain students as explained in the PowerPoint:
    • Siblings of students already in the requested schools
    • Students in closing schools
    • Students in defined catchment areas (K-8 only, not high schools)
  • All applications will be considered at the same time
    • No "first-come first-served"
  • Students will receive one match or offer to attend for their highest choice school having available seats

Enrollment Schedules

  • The new applications will be released the week of February 6
    • Available at all schools
    • Available at Parent-Family Resource Centers
    • Available on-line
  • Workshops will be held in February and March for parents to receive help completing applications
    • Parent-Family Resource Centers at Cohen, Reed, Landry, and Carver sites
    • Many parents request more info on programs at various schools
  • Deadline for submission is March 31
    • Applications may be submitted at schools, Parent-Family Resource Centers, or RSD
  • Notifications of offers to enroll students mailed week of May 1
  • After May 1, families can discuss placement offers with staff at schools and RSD
    • Families can pursue placement at other schools with seats still available
