Dear Teachers,

Please take a moment to review the important information below regarding registration and the new elements we will be introducing into our programming this season!

Registering for Reading Is Cool
Registration for the 2012-13 program will open on Wednesday, August 15 at 8:00 AM. At that time, please visit sjsharks.com/readingiscool or CLICK HERE to register your classroom(s). Please have your school address, school phone number, grade level, classroom size and personal contact information available when filling out the form. As always, the first ten teachers to register will receive a special in-class visit from San Jose Sharks mascot, S.J. Sharkie!
NEW this year, schools who register 5 or more classrooms will be automatically entered for a chance to win a 2012-13 Reading Is Cool presented by Comerica Bank "Kickoff Visit" in September. These celebratory, assembly-style visits from S.J. Sharkie and Sharks Foundation Staff promise to be a FIN-tastic way to motivate your students to read, read, read!
Should you encounter difficulties while registering for the program, please call Kelly Esrey at (408) 999-5836. |
NEW for the 2012-13 School Year
When you speak, we listen! Based on the great feedback from our 2011-12 teacher survey, we have made a few key changes to this year's program. Further information will be provided upon registration, but we are eager to give you a sneak peek at the following elements:
- "Celebrity Story Hour": These events, held at two T.B.D. dates at Sharks Ice at San Jose, will feature San Jose Sharks athletes and staff reading from their favorite children's books. The story hours will be open to all Reading Is Cool Presented by Comerica Bank participants.
- "Teacher of the Month" Award: Sharks Foundation Staff will regularly recognize educators who go above and beyond in the classroom and in his or her implementation of Reading Is Cool. Winning teachers will receive a plaque and recognition in the monthly newsletter.
- Monthly Raffles: Teachers who submit their monthly reading reports will be entered into a drawing for autographed San Jose Sharks merchandise.
- Additional "Swag": Newly designed certificates will be included in your collateral packages as a reward to students who excelled but may have just missed receiving the "Reader of the Month" medal.
- "Best Practices": Teachers who implement Reading Is Cool into their classrooms in particularly fun or creative ways will be featured on our website and in the monthly newsletter to help others generate new ideas.
