Signing on as a partner for forest stewardship

Along with the signing of a memorandum of understanding, a tree planting ceremony commemorated the addition of five new partners into the Baltimore-Washington Partners for Forest Stewardship.

 

The Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry was one of five new partners that joined the Baltimore-Washington Partners for Forest Stewardship (BWPFS) in June. This partnership advances the restoration, conservation, and stewardship of nearly 47 square miles, of which 64 percent is either forest or wetland. This significant contiguous tract is among the last in the urbanized Baltimore-Washington corridor. Read more
New employee joins Forest Health Protection Staff
Ryan Hanavan has accepted the forest entomologist position, Forest Health Protection Staff, Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry. In addressing the many forest challenges in the Northeast, he will apply his strong background in spatial ecology of insect pests across large areas with diverse land uses.  Read more 
Advance registration requested for tree of heaven meeting
Instead of registering at the July 26-27, 2011, tree of heaven cooperator's meeting in Chambersburg, PA, those planning to attend are asked to register in advance by completing the registration form  and sending it to Yun Wu.
U.S. Forest Service funds six grants to enhance hardwood forests

Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry Acting Director Mike Dudley announced that the U.S. Forest Service Wood Education and Resource Center will fund six projects. The selected projects encourage innovation and the sharing of processing and marketing knowledge among wood products manufacturers in the Eastern United States. The primary goal of the Forest Service grants is to keep local wood businesses globally competitive and sustainable. Read more
