Looking for an Apprenticeship Progam? |
An Apprenticeship is a relationship between an employer and an employee during which the employee, or apprentice, learns a highly skilled occupation. The Apprenticeship programs consist of a combination of both classroom and on-the-job training. A sponsor, who can be an individual employer or an association of employers, operates the apprentice training programs on a voluntary basis. When a sponsor is comprised of both an employer and a union representative, it becomes a "Joint Apprenticeship Committee" (JAC). In either case, the sponsor plans, administers, and usually pays for the apprenticeship training program.
Apprenticeship training programs are authorized by the National Apprenticeship Act of 1937 (Fitzgerald Act), PL 75-308. In New Jersey, approval of apprentice programs and registration of apprenticeship programs standards is conducted by the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
There are over 900 apprenticeable occupations on record. Apprenticeship programs are available in a variety of areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC - heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, banking and pharmacy. For further information regarding specific apprenticeship programs, contact Peter Frascella, Mercer County Apprenticeship Coordinator at 609.586.5146. |
