Growing as Stewards of the Environment
The third annual Bike to Mass Day was held at Saint Clement on June 24. Many parishioners chose alternate transportation, biking, walking or riding the CTA, and, by acting as stewards of the environment, helped carry out the Catholic social justice tenet to "Care for God's Creation."
Representatives from the Chicago Bicycling Ambassadors provided bike safety tips.
Boy Scouts Kevin Stiebl, Colin Boyle, Gerard Rux, and Dylan Palfy, under the leadership of their Scoutmaster John Rux and Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Boyle, helped park the bicycles. The Environmental Committee shared information on the changes our parish has implemented in becoming more energy efficient and environmentally responsible. The Human Concerns Commission provided hospitality. Thanks to Kozy Cyclery for providing two gift certificates for bicycle tune-ups and to several parishioners for donating additional bicycle or walking gear for the raffle prizes.

Welcome Our New Resident Priest,
Fr. Peter Wojcik
There are many esteemed parishes on the map of the Archdiocese of Chicago and as you know Saint Clement truly is on the top of that list. That is why I am so excited that I can join you as your new resident priest. I was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 17, 2008 (Fr. Manny is my classmate!) and invited to serve as Associate Pastor at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Wilmette. During my time in Wilmette, I undertook studies of spiritual direction (IPF at Creighton University,) chaplaincy and bioethics (Georgetown and NCBC.) For over a year and half I served as a Catholic Priest chaplain at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and the Chairman of the Priestly Life Committee in the Archdiocese. Last year I also began my journey in getting my MBA at Kellogg School of Management.
Because of the number of projects I am involved with and the specific characteristics of my ministry, I was granted this great opportunity to join your parish as a resident and a sacramental minister. I am most grateful to Fr. Ken and Fr. Manny for inviting me to join Saint Clement's community and their most kind welcome. Please know that since I knew of my upcoming appointment I kept you and your families in my daily prayers. As I make Saint Clement my home, I am looking forward to walking with you in our beautiful journey of faith.

Happy Independence Day!
On Wednesday, July 4, Saint Clement Parish celebrates our nation's Independence Day with Mass at 9 a.m. in the Church. Please note this will be the only Mass celebrated on Wednesday, and the parish office will be closed. We wish you and your loved ones a blessed holiday!
Dear God, as we celebrate today with fireworks and festivals, help us never to forget the reason for our joy. Help us remember that our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were signed into our heritage with the willing blood of American patriots. Most of all, help us remember that the rights of all people are more than words on a document, and that all people have rights because you have given us the dignity of human life. Grant freedom to all, and give us the strength to protect the rights of others. Amen.
