Saint Clement Hosts Posada for Sharing Parish

Church

Saint Clement offered a warm welcome

to Our Lady of Mercy parishioners

December 19 was a night of Christmas cheer at Saint Clement, as we hosted our sharing parish, Our Lady of Mercy (OLM), for a bilingual Christmas concert and Posada. Parishioners from OLM reenacted the travels of Joseph and Mary, traveling door to door requesting shelter but continually getting turned away. Upon arrival at Saint Clement, the doors were opened and they were warmly welcomed with music, food and celebration.

The Christmas concert featured the beautiful JoEmma Danini who graced the crowd with her soprano voice, performing in both English and Spanish. The children of OLM donned colorful costumes and performed traditional dances in our school gym, then gathered around a piņata, always hopeful to be the one to crack it open and reap the reward of candy.

The evening concluded with a delicious potluck dinner. The annual Posada occurs every year prior to Christmas.

Stories of Stewards

As part of our ongoing engagement process, we have come to realize the importance of parishioners sharing their personal stories of how they have connected with Saint Clement as an important factor in their lives. As a feature twice a month, the Stewardship Council will share the stories and reflections of our engaged parishioners who are living a stewardship life of prayer, service, and giving. This week we hear from Katie Lawler.

"I've been a part of Saint Clement since I moved to Chicago after graduating college in 2003. I was living with a childhood friend whose boyfriend lived on Deming and went to Saint Clement; they introduced me to the parish and I had the privilege to witness her progress through the RCIA program before they were married. I've always found Saint Clement to be such a vibrant, welcoming community that it's easy to see how she was drawn in. I'm continually comforted and renewed by the energy that I experience there, and I imagine she felt the same.

Aside from finding beautiful worship celebrations at Saint Clement, I've really valued it for the friends I've made and for connecting me with service opportunities. To me, to be a good steward means to simply appreciate what you have and to consistently seek to give back your best in gratitude. I'm proud to support Saint Clement financially through our Sunday Giving Commitment and to support our community with my free time. I've enjoyed many visits to serve clients at the Lakeview Food Pantry; had an incredible trip with Saint Clement young adults to New Orleans in May of 2010 to assist with rebuilding work; and now spend time regularly volunteering at Friends of the Orphans.

Friends is an organization that supports Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH), a group of orphanages in Central America and the Caribbean. I've loved working with everybody in the downtown office and had the amazing experience of visiting two of the homes (in Guatemala and El Salvador) this past November. We were warmly welcomed and it was a privilege to meet the kids and see what wonderful people they're all becoming with the support of their family at NPH. I made many new friends and hope to travel in the future to meet the "Goddaughter" I sponsor in Haiti.

I'm overwhelmingly grateful to be part of such a warm, welcoming, parish, and to have the opportunity to try and extend those same sentiments to others. I look forward to many more years!"

Saint Clement Parish Announces Strengths for the Journey

StrengthsBrochureWe are all uniquely made in the image and likeness of God. God formed and made each of us with different individual talents and strengths. Each one of us is called, chosen, and beloved by God. But how do we discover our unique gifts? How are we called to use these gifts to become faithful followers of Christ?

Guided by personal experience and the results of the Gallup Member Engagement Survey (ME25), members of the Engagement Committee developed a program which provides an opportunity to explore and develop your God-given gifts. It will be offered to all parishioners for the first time this Lent.

This program, called Strengths for the Journey, consists of four sessions dedicated to reflection and understanding of your unique God-given gifts. Each participant will learn how to discover his or her own

personal strengths and how to best use them to find deeper meaning and purpose in one's life, as well as to understand God's special call to wholeness.

Journey this Lent with other Saint Clement parishioners in a small group setting to grow in knowledge and love of God, by learning more about yourself, and how you might better pray, serve and give.

A brochure containing all the details is available here, while you can register here. If you have any questions, please contact the Parish office at 773-281-0371.
