A firestorm erupted this week when Hilary Rosen said of stay-at-home mom, Ann Romney, she's "actually never worked a day in her life." Rosen has since apologized for her comments after other spokespeople for both political parties jumped into the fray. One thing is clear to me, regardless of your political persuasion and regardless of the choices you and your family make about staying at home and mothering or mothering while holding down a job, this episode sure has sparked a lot of discussion about mothering.
Long ago, the Bible made its contribution to the conversation. The Old Testament book that extols wisdom as the highest virtue, ends with the following description of a trustworthy wife and mother. Some of a woman's tasks may have changed over the last centuries, but this passage is still remarkably relevant for mothers today - whether married or parenting alone. As you read, note for yourself what the Lord thinks about the importance of a mother's job and whether the task is easy or hard.
