We're now giving away

a free month to the FamiliesAlive® website.

As we move into the fall season, some changes are afoot at FamiliesAlive®. (Ok, so I'm a fan of old British detectives). My blog is now posted weekly on Mondays. Here's an excerpt from this week's blog, A Sense of Urgency, Part 2:

"America is fast following Europe into a crisis. Morality and spiritual values have been abandoned in a wholesale fashion by many families. Last week we saw what happens when those values are lost. The rioting in London should be a wakeup call."

On the other hand, values and morality can be passed at a very young age to our children. This week, Becky reflects on Jacob's understanding of full faith. Click here to read our blogs.

Thanks to all of you who make this ministry possible. We couldn't do this without your faithful support.

The other morning, my 5-year-old and I were cuddled up on our oversized red recliner. It was Nana's chair, so it's my favorite place to sit. I took a quick break from my quiet time to read a story about Jesus to this precious little one who's usually too busy running around to sit still for very long. Of course, I can say the same about his mother. But, this...this was a moment I will treasure in my heart forever.

I wasn't careful about choosing a passage to read, just picked any old story about something cool and great Jesus did. "Jesus Walks on the Water" - the title in the Book of Matthew caught my eye. This is a good one, I thought. I read it aloud, focusing on verse 33: "Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, 'Truly you are the Son of God.'" The point I wanted Jakie to get was that the Lord is worthy of our worship. That He can do amazing things and is truly the Son of God.

We sat in silence (so very rare) for a few minutes. I was hoping Jakie was contemplating how great our God is, but I've been a mom for a long time. I've worked with kids for even longer. I knew it was most likely he was contemplating what it would take to be a goalie in the World Cup. Apparently, I was wrong. Out of nowhere, Jakie looked at me and said, "Because Peter was full believing about Jesus, he got to walk on the water." What? I've heard this story many times. In fact, so many times that I may have fallen partially asleep while reading verses 28-31 to Jakie. I hadn't even thought about Peter and his role. I wanted my son to hear what I wanted him to hear, but beautifully, wonderfully, God was speaking to His son's heart about something completely different.
