June was an exciting month for the ministry. First, version 2.0 of the FamiliesAlive.org website went live. Be sure to check out the Explore Button and the new Explore Video that makes navigating the site a breeze.
Then, our annual retreat was a great success. Our theme was Raising Spiritual Champions.
Also, FA recieved a major endorsement. The ministry was designated an Approved Resource Organization of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Their copy stated, "FamiliesAlive® offers excellent online resources for the discipleship and nurture of Christian Families." We thank the Lord for this extraordinary recognition!
We could never have done this without the help of a lot of people. Your donations have always been a large part of this effort. There is now an easy way to give to the ministry right on line - just click on Make a Donation in the Menu Bar.
Sincerely,
Rev. David W. Baer

A Sense of Urgency, Part 1
At this year's annual FamiliesAlive® retreat, I played a video clip showing combat scenes from Afghanistan. The short clip was the sort of thing that can be seen any day on the evening news. Afterwards, I asked two questions: First, how would you be feeling if tomorrow you were sending a son or daughter into combat over there? Second, would you want your child to be thoroughly prepared before leaving for war?
One of the fathers came up to me afterwards and expressed concern with the combat video. "But," he said, "I think I understood what you were trying to communicate. You were trying to communicate a sense of urgency about our spiritual parenting, weren't you?" Exactly.
Today, parents and the Church should have a sense of urgency about spiritual parenting. Understanding the nature of the battle which God's people have always faced is the starting place.
