What's New at Profit Focused Principles...
Dare I say it, tax season is almost over. You only have until April 17th to file your tax return this year. Some of you may have already spent your tax refund for 2011, while some just broke out in a sweat reading that. My team has enjoyed helping our clients pull together their information and work their way through all the tax forms. If you want to simplify the process for next year, I can always help you with your QuickBooks to make it even easier.
I hope you enjoyed the recent holiday, and have a great April!

Add/Edit Multiple List Entries Simplifies Record Changes
Data entry and modifications in QuickBooks can be tedious. Beginning with QuickBooks 2010 Pro Edition and above, that job got a lot easier. The Add/Edit Multiple List Entries tool does just what its name implies: It lets you add entries to your lists of customers, vendors, services, inventory parts, and non-inventory parts. It also makes changing one or several of them quick and easy.
Using this feature, you can:
- See customized views of your list data
- Enter missing information
- Create new entries from duplicates of existing ones
- Do a mass change of a whole column
- Copy and paste records from Excel
There are myriad applications for this tool. You could use it, for example, when you're changing Preferred Vendors for a group of items and you don't want to have to edit each individual item record. Or when the area code for select customers or vendors has changed. You could use it if you're adding an inventory item that's just slightly different from another, or when your accountant tells you to change the name of an account. Building the perfect view
To get started, click Lists | Add/Edit Multiple List Entries. In the screen that opens, click the arrow next to the List box and select the type of data you want to see, like Customers. Then select the group that you want displayed by dropping the View list down. Click the Customize Columns button. This window opens:
Figure 1: Make sure your columns are correct and in the right order.

The Penalty Box Bar and Grill
Many people dream of starting their own business. Something they enjoy doing where it's not a "job." Nicole Farrett decided to go-for-it and opened The Penalty Box Bar and Grill.
Located at 16108 South Rt. 59 in Plainfield, The Penalty Box Bar and Grill was opened on March 16th of this year. Owner Nicole and her management team heard good things about the area. "Friends told me it was a good location, and a good sports bar was needed in that part of the Route 59 corridor," said her brother Dan. Nicole wanted to open an establishment that was fun, had great food, was a great place to hang out and enjoy sports and entertainment, and also support the community. While named The Penalty Box, the bar has a general sports theme that includes most sports, not just hockey. But you can bet you'll see plenty of Blackhawks, playoff and Stanley Cup games there.
