Many people dream of starting their own business. Something they enjoy doing where it's not a "job." Nicole Farrett decided to go-for-it and opened The Penalty Box Bar and Grill in Plainfield.
Located at 16108 South Route 59 in Plainfield, The Penalty Box Bar and Grill was opened on March 16th of this year. Owner Nicole and her management team heard good things about the area. "Friends told me it was a good location, and a good sports bar was needed in that part of the Route 59 corridor," said her brother Dan. Nicole wanted to open an establishment that was fun, had great food, was a great place to hang out and enjoy sports and entertainment, and also support the community. While named The Penalty Box, the bar has a general sports theme that includes most sports, not just hockey. But you can bet you'll see plenty of Blackhawks, playoff and Stanley Cup games there during the hockey season.

The Penalty Box Bar and Grille is a family-friendly establishment with a menu including daily food and drink specials. The bar and grill covers approximately 2,400 square feet and is a nice location for group outings or parties. They do have access to a separate room if you'd like to hold a get together in a more private setting. And one thing you'll notice about this location is the custom woodwork on the beautiful oak bar. Along with the tables and custom glass rack, the bar was hand-made locally by the owners themselves giving the place a welcoming feel.

The bar is also going to offer much more for its customers than the standard 'beer and a burger.' If you're competitive and want to show off your well-developed bag or dart-throwing skills, The Penalty Box will be hosting open Bag Tournaments and a Dart League. They also plan to offer live weekend entertainment featuring music from local bands and DJ's. "We're very excited to be able to offer entertainment in a casual setting for those in the area that might not want to travel very far for a fun night out" said Nicole. "We're also opening two beer gardens soon, which are popular yet scarce in this area." They're also advertising a "Hogs and Horses Pig Roast" on May 5th, the day of the Kentucky Derby. And in June, they're putting together a bus trip to see a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs. The Penalty Box is a proud sponsor of area baseball and softball teams. "We like to help out local sports teams and support the community," said Nicole. Customers can also enjoy Take-Out if they'd like to order some food from the menu to take home.

"Big Mike" Peters can't wait to celebrate the end of tax season! He plans to have a party at The Penalty Box and relax a bit after the last three busy months. Who knows, you might even see him in a Bag Tournament - he can throw a mean bag!
