Dear Neighbor,
A LAND ACQUISITION PLAN WAS INTRODUCED INTO CITY COUNCIL YESTERDAY.
It is hard to believe that it has been 10-years since community residents and City officials met at Darwin School in 2002 to begin a planning process which resulted in the 2004 Logan Square Open Space Plan. At that time, Logan Square was identified as one of Chicago's most densely developed community areas with the least amount of open space except for South Lawndale. Today, most of the Open Space Plan recommendations have been completed or are in progress. These include New School Campus Parks (Brentano, Mozart, Logandale, and Drummond) improvements to Palmer Square, New Logan Gateway Parks (Skate Park and Dog Park @ Logan & the Kennedy Expressway) and the expansion of Haas Park to name a few.
the grandest component of the Open Space Plan continues to advance with community partners, volunteers, and philanthropists working together.
Yesterday, the City of Chicago took a major step towards beginning the design and construction process. Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced a plan to officially acquire the abandoned, elevated track from the Canadian Pacific Railroad for $1 plus $105,000 in administrative fees associated with the vacation of the railroad right-of-way. The City has received $46 million in federal funding for construction of the Bloomingdale Trail. This large grant requires a 20 percent local match of private funds which we are working on with our strategic partner, the Trust for Public Land.
The Phase I engineering and preliminary design plan was completed and released this week. If you would like to learn more about the status of the Bloomingdale Trail and discuss the project details with the design team, please join us at:
The Bloomingdale Community Meeting
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 @ 6pm
Humboldt Park Fieldhouse
1440 N. Sacramento Ave.
I look forward to seeing you there, hearing your ideas and continuing to work towards making all of the Open Space Plan recommendations into a reality.
Respectfully,
Rey Colón
Alderman, 35th Ward
City of Chicago

Mayor Emanuel Introduces Ordinance to Simplify and Streamline Business Licensing This month, Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced a major effort to simplify and streamline business licensing. This effort will reduce the number of business licenses by 60% and will lower licensing fees for over 10,000 businesses in Chicago. The effort will also cut red tape, improve transparency, and offer consolidated licenses for commonly paired activities. It will make it easier to start and grow a business in Chicago. Further details will be forthcoming in the Fall, but please contact us at Licensing@cityofchicago.org in the meantime if you have any further questions. Click Here to see highlights of the benefits of this effort. Click Here for the Business License Reform: 2013 License List. |

Streets For Cycling Plan 2020 PUBLIC MEETINGS
The purpose of the Streets for Cycling Plan 2020 is to identify up to 250 miles of innovative bicycle facilities that will encourage all Chicagoans to use their bikes to get around their neighborhoods.
As you are aware, Chicago is a large city with different challenges and opportunities in every neighborhood. In order to address these issues, we have divided the city into nine areas, using barriers like expressways and waterways as dividing lines (see below). For each area, we will be reviewing the existing bicycling conditions by identifying destinations, barriers, gaps in existing bikeways, and assets. We'd love to receive input on these issues. Read more about the 2020 Plans Benchmark and goals.
