Dear Neighbor,
Today, I had the distinct honor of joining City Clerk Susana Mendoza and several of my fellow aldermen on a tour of the Misericordia Home located at 6300 N. Ridge Avenue. Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes the potential of people with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. Misericordia has provided help for those in need since 1921. By serving society's most vulnerable citizens, Misericordia also serves the families who want the best for them, yet cannot provide it at home.
Misericordia serves more than 600 children and adults from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds on its 31-acre Chicago campus with a wide variety of programs. This loving and caring residential setting includes community integrated living arrangements, on-campus apartments, group homes and skilled nursing staff. Twenty percent of Misericordia's residents either come from low-income families or have no families at all and are wards of the State. One hundred percent of Misericordia's programs, renovations and new construction are made possible through private fundraising
Friday & Saturday April 27 & 28, 2012 are Misericordia Candy Days! Please consider being part of more than 12,000 people who proudly walk the streets and stand at the store fronts supporting Misericordia. Volunteers are needed to work the streets, sidewalks and store fronts of Chicago. No training or experience is required, just a caring heart. Anyone can do this by simply passing out candy and informational tags in exchange for donations. Just two hours of your time can make a big difference for the children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Click Here To Volunteer to Misericordia Candy Day and complete an on-line volunteer form.
Misericordia's residents rely on volunteers like us to continue providing an atmosphere of compassion and love. I hope you will join me in giving a few hours towards this great and important cause.
Respectfully,
Rey Colón
Alderman, 35th Ward

- A monthly email update that includes current recycling rates, events, and initiatives.
- Tips on how to reach out to your neighbors and tools, such as lawn signs and introduction cards to do so.
- Information to help you accurately answer recycling related questions.
- Access to knowledgeable staff to help you resolve issues and further educate you about the program.
Help us build a successful Blue Cart recycling program in your area, reduce the amount of waste in our landfills, encourage new business markets and outlets for recycled products and provide for the safety of our children, families and city workers by eliminating and/or reducing hazards in our garbage.
